Default To catch the wild one??

Is there anything that can be put in food that would sedate a horse, the only thing the vets are willing to provide is something to put under the tongue,
    Thanks for any info.

Might I ask what you are trying to do? I don't know of any sedation that can be fed to the horse and what the vets are talking about (most likely dormosedan gel) takes upwards of an hour to work.

Catch him, put in trailer, move across the street to tall enough enclosure, geld.
Just trying to help out, not my place.
We have another option, I was just hoping we could knock him out with feed.
Corralling or roping is not going to work.

    Ace can be fed.

Yes, it is just scary, but all the options are a little scary.
If it was my decision, probably would go that route.

Why is catching and trailering so difficult for this horse? Might be easier to just have a trainer come and help you out.

Can you contact a local rescue? Many times they have a great deal of experience handling "unhandled" horses. Maybe they can help you out.

Ace does come in granual form (at least it used to.)

Can you use portable fence to set up a catch pen? Put the food in there then close the gate?

Cowboy method.... set up a good sturdy portable round pen and start feeding him in it for a while, then one time close the gate and lock him in? Then later on you can begin desensitizing him and get him gentled to halter him.

The vet who will be doing the castration ought to be able to provide some input. Perhaps use panels (borrowed, if none are available) to herd him into the trailer, then more panels to crowd him into a space where the vet can get a tranq into him at the place where he'll be gelded. Could you find out if anyone has asked around for vets that will work on unhandled or problem horses? Do you have a local humane society or animal control that might have suggestions on handling this horse?

    Good luck and stay safe!
