    Default UV blankets

    Are they effective?
My DIL has a grey mare and she is thinking of buying a UV blanket for her for this summer.
Since most melanomas seem to appear under the tail or on the belly, would a UV blanket really be useful?
She is in Quebec and I am in Ontario, where could I find one. I don't see them listed on the tack shop websites.
Any comment or suggestion would be helpful.
They do not do night turnout at her barn, at least I don't think so.

Equine melanomas aren't related to sun exposure unlike humans. The UV blankets for horses are designed to protect from fading.

That's what I told her. I could not see a blanket helping since most of the time, the melanomas are not in exposed areas. But, you know, dealing with a DIL is not always easy. I sure would not spend the money. If you are so worried, why did you go out of your way to get a grey horse? sigh...
