Oh man, this is unbearably sad............ poor thing. They don't like to see her "struggle" ?????? Oh, dear. Hopefully someone kind will just go get her, and humanely put her down. The owners should just give her away for heaven's sake. Buy the hay and feed just to give the owners something for their effort to re-home her. I swear.
Where is the mare located? State? County?

Another "let's get rid of the old horse before she dies and we have to dispose of the body" listing. I see them alot here. Poor horses...

Oh good Lord! They want to SELL a 35 year old mare for 200? Oh wait, they'll come down to 100? And for an EXTRA 50.00 they'll throw in a bale of hay and her feed!

I don't get it, obviously at 35 she IS struggling, they can't handle it or want to put her down, so lets get a little bit of money out of her while we can.

Rather than GIVING her to a good home and GIVING her hay and feed, lets SELL! WE can't handle putting her down, so lets sell her and let SOMEONE else pay to put her down and pay to dispose.

So, let me get this straight.

1.) Don't want to spend any money on a mare that has given 35 years to people.

2.) Want to get some money out of it, can't give her and her feed away when we might find someone to give us money.

3.) She's struggling, and we can't stand to see that anymore, so we want someone ELSE to see her struggle and pay to put her down and dispose of her.

4.) We really don't care about the mare, if we did, WE would put the old gal down or not try to squeeze some money out of a horse that doesn't have any "value" to someone else that hasn't owned her for many years.

Seriously? They try to sound like they are doing something GOOD for her. So they want someone to PAY to buy her, PAY to get her feed, PAY to put her down and PAY to dispose of her body. They want money, and they want out. How pathetic.

I swear if I was in the area and had the money and space I would get her and say "NO THANKS" to the feed and hay, tell them I am going to do what they can't do and put her down. I would feed her for a while, give her love and see how bad she really was though first, see if she COULD be good in a different situation. But if bad, uncomfortable or in pain I would put her down.

Someone please email them this thread.

I just sent the seller an email warning her of killer/slaughter buyers. I didn't go so far as to say that they should put her down instead of hand her over to others but if I don't hear back from seller I'll send them another email.
Why don't we all send them emails?

Do you really think they're worried about the horse being sold by the pound? They have a 35 year old horse listed on CL for $100, for crying out loud.

    Sigh!

Someone should go buy her, bring some yummies and a vet with you. Feed her and love on her and have the vet put her down right there.

Obviously her current owners are complete morons!

Tru that is exactly what I was thinking only with a six shooter in my pocket. Just end it right there in their damn backyard, Bastards! Let them see it happen in an instant right in front of their faces before they can react. Quick and painless death for a horse who is no doubt been living in misery with these asshats for who knows how long. wonder how long they let Grandma suffer? Seriously, where is the humanity!

This is on the DC area CL.

I couldn't stand it anymore. I sent an email asking for info. I can't take her, but if anyone else can, I'm definitely enabling!!!! If they respond, at least I'll have an email address before the ad disappears.

DC is too far from me (for a mare that age).... hope someone in the area can help this mare

ETA: I mean, it's too far for her to travel at that age.

Oh come on. The world is full of stupid people who wouldn't even think about slaughter. They just think that the old horse fairy will swoop down & give grandma a great home so they won't have to any more. Unfortunately these folks sound like they're in that "stupid" group!
While recently shopping for a draft horse I encountered many people who never even considered that their low prices would encourage the meatman to pay them a visit.

    Update:

The mare is alone in a field, no other horses, and apparently an OTTB. The owner says she's not in pain, but they can't afford hay and feed.

She's in Opal VA, 22712, which looking at a map, is between Culpeper and Warrenton.

Can anyone offer this mare a field or at least a humane end?

Tons of COTHers in this general area... someone grab her! I can add $20 to the donations. If someone steps up with the trailer and the space to love on her until a vet can come out, I know COTHers can make the finances happen.

I can help with 25.00 via paypal. You would just have to let me know as sometimes I don't follow threads. PM if someone gets her.

I also received an email from the owners.
If anyone is in the area how about going to get her? Why not let her live out her days in a nice grassy pasture instead of putting her down? Yes, I know it's $$$ but if someone out there can afford her go to it. Hopefully someone can afford her & has the room for her.

I haven't been this angry in a while. Who are these god damned troglodytes who would do this to an animal?! She has nothing to EAT? She's 35 years old? Stuck in a field alone, suffering?

Lemme guess, they don't want to pay to euth her and the fee to remove the body. So they want someone to PAY them to basically do just that? Are they freaking out of their minds?

People this cruel deserve jail time, with years added on for their sheer stupidity.
