Default Jingles for Charles Town Racing

Domino fall in the 8th race tonight. 8 horse field, 1 finished. Other race(s) cancelled. Sloppy track. From FB a few minutes ago:

"Ok. Mawing might have a broken collar bone. Carlos is ok. Mitch had a pretty good laceration to hand and arm-but all things considered-things are good. Only one horse put down."

Jingles to jocks, horses, and connections.

Amazing so many "walked off"... I hate that track when they seal it.

The weather was the mitigating factor...rain fall amounts horrific...should have called off racing BEFORE the accident..which was just waiting to happen...

This was always my fear every time I raced at CT. I know it can happen anywhere but it seems to me like they have way more than their share. I saw too many dead horses to ever relax there. If something like this ever happens in a big race like the Derby racing in this country would never recover. I guess we should be glad it was just lowly CT so not many people will see it. Jingles for a complete recovery for all the survivors both human and equine.

I agree Laurie, from my earliest experience at CT (1984) almost everytime we ran there I witnessed a breakdown. I always feared one would break down in front of one of our horses. My fear was lessened if we had a speed horse who liked to be in front.

Right. I tried to tell myself that everything would be ok because my horse was sound but that doesn't help much if the horse in front of you goes down. Maybe that is part of the reason everyone sends there? The last time I ran there was like four years ago and my hands were shaking so bad in the paddock I could hardly get the horse saddled. I decided never again.

    Jingling for all involved.

My mare Adelaide ran her last race at CT, bowing both fronts and being vanned off.

As an aside, I find it unsettling that the DRF in their on-line article regarding the spill provided the video from the race. Why in the world do that? There is no valid reason to feed macabre interests with injuries and breakdowns.

To suggest my remarks are advocating censorship is patently wrong.

wow... scary... I lived in Charles Town for about 6 months about 4 years ago. Went to the races one day to watch. Thankfully the only bad thing that happened was that a horse was scratched at the gate. (that and I got over heated and almost passed out) That made the second time I've been to a race track the first one was Keenland (I think). I was on tour with the Midway College and Keenland was just awesome. Won my mom some money picking some winners. I didn't bet at CT though, just wanted to watch. But I did mentally pick a couple of winners.

Hope everyone else is okay from that race.

And I'm with charismaryllis on what is a sealed track. What is does that mean?

Sealed means they flatten it down instead of the usual fluffing up that they do to help the water run off.

Sharp Beauty was euthanized, the rest of the field walked off on their own power. One jockey is still hospitalized but should be released soon.

    one horse euthanized.
Charles Town used to have a huge number of breakdowns. But, they've made improvements and they are not nearly as frequent as they used to be. I remember at least one horse a night breaking down ten years ago.
One is too many, but CT is not the meat grinder it once was.

It's patently incredible only one horse was hurt in all that.

And to add irony - Miss Fifty was the betting favorite.

I wouldn't say only one horse was injured as even the winner had lacerations that needed stitches. I an sure they are all injured to an extent.
