I know that this is an old thread, and maybe the problem has been solved, but it seems to me that the horse is resisiting his bit or possibly the martingale. From my experience, working as a trainer who specializes in "problem" horses, most issues are because of current equipment or learned behavior because of tack issues in the past. Of the 4 horses I currently have in training, all 4 had saddle fit issues either currently or in the past, and all 4 were unhappy with their bits, and are all doing wonderful with new saddles and being ridden in sidepull hackamores until they have overcome their bit fears, then I will transition them back to a bit that they can be comfortable in.
As a previous poster stated, horses communicate through their resistance behaviors, and it is up to the owners and trainers to listen to the horses and try to figure out what they are trying to say to us.

This thread is pretty much over, but I'm so excited about my ride yesterday that I just wanted to share my video. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Haha! Don't mind me, I just like to bring up my very, very old thread to brag about my pony.

Well, I was following all along, and what a different horse! SO glad it's all good. Blindness is the "best" lameness problem you could have.
