Those electric pet beds?
Anyone have one? I was wondering if they are safe to use in our shed (has a doggy door so it stays dry) but the dog might be coming in wet and laying on it......?

As long as you have one intended for outdoors...sure. I have one for my barn cat. She's snuggled up in it right now.

Cool. Thank you. Was trying to save myself a trip to petsmart if it would not work.

It's not electric, but I recently bought one of these Self Warming Beds and have been really impressed with it so far. Granted I've only had it about a week, so I can't speak for it's longevity at all, but the dog seems to love it and it puts out a surprising amount of warmth. I think K&H makes other styles of the self warming beds too. Might be a different option if you want something non-electric!

I bought one of these for my former feral that still won't come inside.
It did last ten hours as promised and it was below freezing here last night for a good length of time.
No electricity required.

Hey Lone, I got one for my old man this Christmas. Not positive it is much warmer but it is an intriguing concept, safe, and cheap. It is reassuring to hear you are impressed. I have mine in a crate, lined the inside of metal crate with a fleece, and tossed a sheet over top: trying to trap every bit of body heat. This is indoors for an old dog sensitive to cold.
I dig the Snugglesafe discs but am not willing to pay (yet). If I had an outdoor pet, I would buy a couple.
OP, is there a doghouse or smaller shelter inside shed to retrain body heat? There are a few different electric pet beds intended for outdoor pets, like LauraK mentioned.

Bicoastal our shed is doggy heaven. Issue is me (I think!). I worked from home for 6 years and my current 3 dogs are only used to that.
The shed is a large small (if that makes sense), guessing 10ftx6ft max. It has a doggy door, 2 heat lamps, 2 dog beds, a crate with beds in it and a towel wrapped around the crate, and a baby mattress. The corgi is a hair ball but I worry about the beagle. She is prone to get sickly (has a condition called mega esphogrous(spelling is totally wrong). It got really cold for NC this week so I left her fleece blanket on her outside. So far so good. Hubs said she has not seemed cold when he gets home. She loves to get in the crate in the shed and sleep. I would leave her in the house but she can not make the 9 hour day and I can not have her peeing everywhere. (I have tried putting down peepee pads but she wont use them).
I am going to get a self warming bed for sure. I did not know they had such. It will at least make me feel better.
Any other ideas would be welcome. When it gets super cold (thankfully not often) I am going to take her to doggy day care.
Thanks everyone for your insight. Much appreciated.

I think you're good to go! Since you are comfortable running electric for the heat lamps, a plug-in heated bed might help you feel better. Sounds like the dogs are just fine . In NC with heat lamps, a wrapped crate, and beds to get off the ground? My pups want to move in!

Electric blankets exceed the temperature levels that are considered comfortable and safe for your dog. Queen sized beds with electric blankets should also not be considered an appropriated substitute for a heated dog bed even though my dogs would have you believe differently.

I have two of these that I use in my "cat houses" for my outdoor semi-ferals: http://cozywinters.com/shop/kh-1000-1020.html They love them.
