Danny... aka Wapz Hot Dan, my Appy/Irish sport horse.. is amazing!!! He's got such a great brain!!!!
He turned 7 months old on Christmas and I've had him since he was about 4 months old.
This month he has gone on two trail rides being ponied by Uncle Fleck and done well!! He bolted when some bikers came up on a blind turn and surprised us, but... Fleck also bolted! They both stopped, turned around, went "oh okay" and carried on like nothing had happened. Then today we went on a solo trailer ride (he's done it before...one to come home from souther VA, and another trip to the vet and back) and did well. He called a lot, but... so did Fleck!! The big goober (and by that I mean Fleck...) literally followed the trailer as far as he could with his nose poked to the window! But Danny hauled well and was a good boy. We went to a farm with a lovely XC course and Danny got to watch the big kids school. He then got his turn. He walked in and out of his first ditch, up and down his first bank, and even jumped (JUMPED!!!! Not just walked over.. he hopped!) some small logs. After the third time up the bank (once up, once down, up again) he was so proud of himself he gave a little snort and prance! Squeaaaalllsss!! I love this little guy!
I'm just having so much fun with him and am impressed with his brain. A friends young horse got loose and was running around and he just stood calmly with me. Then another friends horse went on a bucking spree (it was nice cool weather!) and he was fine. The only thing was that the water was still a little scary. He got his front feet in and sniffed/drank, but I figure... why push it!? We've got time.
So yep.... shameless Mommy brag, but I can't help it. I love the little squirt!
I wish I had pics from today... I almost took some when he was looking at the big kids but I was a little nervous handling him and a camera all at the same time. I think he would have been fine, but....
But I do have a pic from our pony ride
...as you already know! Honestly, he's quite the horse...and I wasn't kidding yesterday that you might well need a larger trailer. If I can figure out how to download and post videos from my FLIP camera to COTH, I'll put up the one where Danny teaches you to NOT act like your arm is a big carrot - silly Mommy!
~ it no longer matters what level I do, as long as I am doing it..~ with many thanks, to Elizabeth Callahan
