Default Blue merle doxie-oops! Merry Christmas to me!

I stopped by our local pound today to wish Merry Christmas to the lady who is in charge of it. That really was my intention.
However, what am I supposed to do when I got lost, went in the wrong door, and surprise surprise-I was in the dog kennel part. As I tried to escape, there was the little doxie girl wagging her tail at me? Sooooooo, she comes home on the 22nd and I am researching German names.
Does DH know? Well, not yet....

Hah, I would've caved too! Congrats...

The dachshunds in "The Ugly Dachshund" by G.B. Stern (hilarious little book from 1938--highly recommended!) all have German names... the lady hunds are Elsa, Erda, Eva, and Sieglinde.

How about Heidi? Since she is hidden from DH. You know she'll turn out to be his dog don't you?

They are called Dapple (don't know what is wrong with blue merle!) and I love them, they are so cool!

Or what about Greta, Gretchen, Leisle, Bridgitte?

I have a friend that raises those, blue merle with half or all blue eyes too.

She can't keep any puppies, as she intends, because people line up to buy them and practically mob her for them.

    They are very cute.

I like Heidi, but generally dogs name themselves, just wait and it will come.
Since you are getting her around Christmas, how about Merry, if she is a happy little dog and it fits her?

    Pictures would help ...

I suggest to NOT pick a German name! I work at a vet and we see so many with the same generic name! So many Named Fritz, Helga, etc....

Some of my favorites though: my dapple dachsie was named Disco

One family had 3 there names were Oscar, Meyer and Hoagie. Which are all pretty generic, but their last name was Bacon

    For German names: Bismark, Rommel

We had one come in named "Jaws". He was a land shark.

I also had one named Groovy.

And have a double dapple who is mostly white ( rescued this genetic mutant) and is name is Zero. He is named after the ghost dog In the Nightmare before Christmas.

I am very jealous! I want a weenie puppy now! Lisa

Her name at the pound is Bell, but our pony is named Belle, and I prefer to do away with the "prison" name when she comes home. For some reason, the name Willow is sticking with me. But yes, she will most likely name herself.
Actually, she is really more like a blue roan, not merle, now that I think about it.
Weenies are so easy-Noodles, our first one, hardly ever barks. She does like to bring in smushed mouses, however. Blech. :-)

At least you are not collecting great danes...

My grandmother bred dachsies way back when...I am actually named after one, though my mom denies it: Dog was there first, then I came along, need I present more proof?

We got out first wiener dog in August as a pup. LOVE him! They are so funny - Frank talks to us all the time. There isn't a day that goes by that we don't laugh at something Frank does. <3

Here's a video of one of our conversations.

She would still be considered a dapple. BUT be VERY CAREFUL, like potato chips, you can't have just one!!! Thank you for rescuing her!!!

Congrats! My mom always wanted to name a female Doxie "Schatzie".

They lost their mini wirehaired male at the ripe age of 17 two years ago. Here's a picture of him, just a few months before: http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6713103_n.jpg

Wonderful, tenacious dogs, smart as a whip.
