Default Hunt coat color.. beyond black and navy! : )

This is a post about hunt coat colors OTHER than black and navy. I know that many are of the opinion that black and navy are classic and that is what you ought to wear. This post is directed at those who want more variety than black and navy. I dare say those who even think black and navy are BORING. So to those of a more non-traditional bent what do you wear, what do you wish for color wise?

As for me I prefer something different. I looked looked and looked and finally found a Hunter Green coat that looks lovely with my chestnut. I am happy to be a little different than everyone else. I also think a deep purple would look nice- but I think I would have to learn to sew or have someone make it for me as I have never ever seen one.

I wear a French Blue Jacket and it looks awesome. It has window pane stripes and I pair it with a pink shirt.
I also like green jackets, although I haven't seen that color around much.
I always like to step out of the "cookie cutter" mold and look a bit different. As long as the colors are subtle, go for it.

I hate navy and black on my daughter (I don't show anymore). My favorite coats of hers are from Grand Prix, an olive green/grey which I am enamored of, and a medium grey/blue, which is a little different too. I am always on the look out for nice coats and I will tell you the dark boring ones always sit in her closet on show day

Here is the olive/grey coat on a white pony:

    and here on a palomino/chestnut:

I think it's really rather versatile, I'm sure it would look good on a nice bay too! we need to bring some greens back into hunterland!!

I wear a hunter green coat, but what I really want is a forest or olive green. I know RJ CLassics made one, but I don't think they do anymore. Anyway, I can't find one in anything close to my size.

don't know your size but they have a pretty good size range of the Grand Prix Olive/Grey similar to the one my daughter has - and it's on sale!

I'm a big fan of a medium gray. I think it looks very classy and dignified while separating you from the pack!

    Coveting French Blue badly.

I wear all different shades of gray (maybe I am the minority but I love lighter colored coats), brown, olive green, and taupe/tan. I don't personally think that hunter green looks good on my skin tone, but that's probably the ONLY color I don't wear.

Some of my favorite coats are not navy

Two of the ones that I wear in the summer are both browns; the one I like best is a taupe plaid but I don't think I have a photo sadly. The other one I wear a lot that time of year (when my horse turns a nice seal brown) is a darker chocolate color. And I wear it with a very pale purple shirt. Sounds crazy but it's actually pretty subtle and I've gotten lots of compliments on it.

I absolutely hate wearing the same coat more that once during a show, which leads me to have lots of coats in different colors! My favorite is a light tan Grand Prix with light blue pin striping that I bought on consignment for only $40! I also have a medium brown Ariat with pink pin striping and pink lining that is gorgeous! Instead of the classic black, I have one that is black with burgundy pin striping and a burgundy color piping. I think the classic navy or black jacket can be made so much more appealing with a contrast lining.

I have a dark almost black navy by Ariat with a light blue lining, olive by Ariat and a grey/green by Grand Prix, I love the look of the green tones on my chestnut pinto.

I really like my dark brown coat with pale purple shirt, too. The darker brown seems to be versatile in terms of the color shirts you can wear with it. I also like my charcoal jacket. It also looks good with a lot of different shirts and different horse colors.

While I should probably be seeking lighter color jackets to stand out on my plain bay, I think the darker colors look better on me and are more versatile. I personally don't like the hunter green coats, but olive or gray greens are nice. Oh, and I, too, covet a French Blue coat .

I have a couple very different custom coats....but I primarily show on the dark side (breed ring)

I have a far more conservative chocolate brown Grand Prix with a subtle light blue and apricot windowpane for the hunters. But even in the hunters, I managed to coordinate. See how my brown coat matches the mud pit?

OMG asb, I really, truly LOVE the coat in the second picture. WHERE did you find it? Too bad it wouldn't look so nice on me, I'm not blonde and my horse is a plain bay!

Thanks Heinz. I had it custom made to wear on that horse. Same horse in the second and third photos - but I think the nice folks at the hunter shows would fall over if we showed up with me wearing the gold coat!

I haven't shown in many years, and while I like navy and black, I am one of those people who finds them boring, mainly because everyone seems to wear those colors.

I love all shades of grey plaids, from light to charcoal, and many of the brown coats as well. French blue is also nice.

I thought it looked a bit 'gold', but wasn't sure if that was just the photo and the horse's coloring that set it off.

I primarily event, and though I know the rules say 'dark colored', I'd love a taupe-y color for my bay. My olive coat looks blah on him, black and navy are so boring, and grey doesn't particularly look good on me. I'd love to have a deep, dark purple jacket made, personally.
