Nice Saddle Stand
Hi Guys,
I am looking to get a nice wooden saddle stand (freestanding, think display) more towards the furniture end of the saddle stand spectrum. Any ideas on where to get one or companies that make them? I know about the ones from the obvious dealers like dover but they seem to be of not very high quality.
Thanks!

I'd imagine something like that would be difficult and expensive to ship. Your best bet might be finding a local woodworker to commission for the job.

I wasn't really looking for anything fancy, just something to use when I cleaned my tack, but I ended up with a wooden quilt rack similar to this: http://robinsonswoodcrafts.com/quilt-stand.htm and it works great -- mine holds two saddles and my show pads easily (I event) and it looks nice. Mine came from a consignment shop for $30 but you can find a huge variety online.

I know it is called a "saddle cleaning stand" because it can open up, but this one is really nice. It is made by Oakcroft and it is very high quality, and looks great as a piece of furniture.

I had my neighbor make one (for a special project) based on some plans I bought on eBay. Ours has a neck and head, mane and tail, and is on wheels. You can see a bit of it here: http://m482.photobucket.com/albumvie...MYn%2Bg%2BI%3D It's a handy thing to have around the house

Geogretown Stable Outfitters makes a beautiful saddle stand. You have a choice of the wood used. I have a mahogany stand. I believe they have a web site of the same name.

McGuinn makes gorgeous ones: http://www.mcguinnfarms.com/shows_p2.html#
They are great about customizing their products so if you want them to tweak anything on their design(s) I am sure they would be open to that. Great people to work with.

And another thing!
Where to find a saddle stand that flips over into a "trough"-- used for putting the saddle upside down while you clean the underside and way all up in the cracks?
The Stanford barn had a behemoth version of one of these and it was the bomb. Leland Sr. did not mess around when it came to building things for keeping horses well.

I don't thing that $300 Dover thing would do it when you got on one side and really worked on the saddle.
