Talking We survived our first parade!

Absolutely thrilled with the little haflinger! He had a few moments that were questionable but handled himself extremely well! A little impatient at times, and got a little nervous of a police officer on a bicycle, but the crowds, the float infront of us....he was amazing about it all. Strange horse bumps into him? Pfft, whatever he didn't mind.

Such a proud pony mama. Well, aunt or big sister, as he's not mine I just do 99% of his riding/handling.

There were cheerleaders, marching bands, antique cars, motorcycles, a zillion small children lined up on the curb, some running out into the street (minor heart failure on my part at this but the haffy was a rock star, as careful with the strange tiny people as he is with my children) He really showed off that sexy neck of his, arched proudly as he pranced infront of the crowds, and judges/announcer stand.

At a few "I shouldn't do this but I can't help myself" moments, as he walked quietly along I let the reins go and waved with both hands. The kids and adults all got a kick out of it.

And this thread is useless without a link to photos, so here's the FB album with the few I have from my camera. Will add more as I get them from friends who came out to watch and from other members who rode today.

The link doesn't work. You sure you don't have those pics set to friends only?

So glad it went well! What fun! You know you made the day for a whole bunch of kids, both young and young at heart.

So glad your parade experience went well. I could not see the photos becasue the link didn't work. We did our sixth parade today. NOt the sixth parade in the same day, but the sixth parade we have done- we usually do just two a year, but have been invited to another one next weekend. I don't have photos yet. I have to track down one of my friends who was taking them from the crowd and get her to send me copies. Again, so glad your Haffie did so well for you.

Uploading them to my photobucket. It's being kind of slow so will have to come back for that. Was telling my friend last night being invited back after his good behavior is like a great big invisible trophy. We get the prize for not giving up when people said I should and that he'd never be safe/I was just going to get hurt working with him, that he'd sat too long being allowed to do the wrong things.

Sure there were some hairy moments early in our relationship...like him losing it on the way to the trail head down the road and darting out infront of oncoming traffic. Lots of bolting and rearing and bucking and spinning. But I never gave up on the little dude and now he has a fan club and my kids can ride him. (3yo daughter does leadline barrels and poles with him. He's so careful with her, trotted in their first class, she almost came off, he froze and stepped back under her, then refused to do more than a fast walk. He's a special guy for sure, even if sometimes it's spelled speh-shul.

On the way back to the parking area. We had to stop at a red light, no more police escort! and he was bored so trying to eat his decorations. *rolls eyes*
