I have one that I found at a tack store in MD last year. Love it for after-ride rub downs. And so does my horse. His favorite thing is to get his face rubbed with my - well, his - cactus cloth

Mine won't leave while his face is being scrubbed. I found that the halter was in the way of a good scratching, so I tried it with him naked. No problem.

After reading this thread, I ordered one! My horse loves having his face rubbed, scratched, brushed, you name it. I think he will adore his cactus cloth!

He likes it best after bridle comes off and before halter goes on...and I absolutely dont have to worry about him wandering off

Okay, I may have a problem.... :/ I got mine from Big D's I think. It is so still and hard! I have soaked it, stuck in in the washing machine a couple of times, used it a fair bit...but it is still so stiff and hard.

Is that the way they are supposed to be? I thought it would soften up and be softer but still scratchy.

Am I doing something wrong??

No, you aren't doing anything wrong. You can't mistreat a cactus cloth. And it's supposed to be scratchy! Also, a cactus cloth becomes relatively flexible. The real flexibility is achieved just by using the sucker.

I suppose you could leave it on a fence in the rain for a while.

But really, just use it all crumpled up and let your horse do the work.

Okay, I needed new stirrup leathers as well so just ordered one from Greenhawk. $5.99 for the cloth, and with the leathers shipping was $9.95. I am eagerly awaiting its arrival! I am sure my TB will love the face rubbing part.

Another use for a cactus cloth!

I like to use it to rub/massage along my geldings neck, shoulder, back, and hindquarter muscles as a bit of a massage after work. I noticed that the massage invariably makes him drop, so now I also use my cactus cloth to bring out mister bashful so I can attend to the periodic cleanings!

So got my Cactus Cloth and did the soak thing and have let it dry. Next steps...? It does smell like sn old burlap bag, hope thats going away soon....:-P

Got mine too, wondering the same thing.

Been using it, and when its in use, its pliable. However, it hurts my hands!!!

Im hoping its going to soften soon, because its killing my hands!
