Look what visited me on Thanksgiving!
Since DH and I moved to our house a little over 4 years ago- we've been regularly seeing a white doe but I never seem to have my camera available. I hadn't seen her in a few months, but during Thanksgiving dinner, she went sauntering across the front yard with her friend. I had to take the photos shooting through the window at dusk so they are a tad blurry

I know- I worry about that every year during hunting season but I'm always hopeful that her "local celebrity" status will keep her safe.

Very pretty. We enjoy the deer that hang out in our back yard, since we don't have any shrubbery for them to feast on!

There are a number of Native American myths involving white deer.
The White Deer Skin dance was one of several annual dances of the California north coast tribes and a white deer skin was an item of great value.

How pretty! We have a white deer in with the herd by my barn, and I've seen it regularly while out trail riding... hoping it's staying safe this season. I haven't gotten close enough to see whether it's a buck or doe. Ours has one or two little brown patches here and there--more of a pinto deer. (:

We have had one in our suburban neighborhood for at least three years now - She is totally white. She used to have a brother but some a**hole shot him during hunting season I'm hoping she won't get hit by a car! She even has her own Facebook page - Salisbury Albino Deer!

beautiful! thank you for the pictures. we have one in fairmount park who looks like the loudest, flashiest pinto you ever saw. i almost drove off the road the first time i saw her! i had no idea there even was such a thing.
My mare wonders about all this fuss about birth control when she's only seen a handful of testicles in her entire life. Living with an intact male of my species, I feel differently! WAYSIDE

She's beautiful! There were a few pinto deer I used to see around Cabrini College on occasion but none that were so white.

New York State is home to one of the largest populations of white deer. They are located in the old Seneca Army Depot. This area was completely fenced in, protecting the deer from predators and hunters. There is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports them, today.

I drive by there infrequently, and, every time that I do, I look for the deer. Never have been lucky yet.

Very pretty! We've a white one near work (upstate NY). I wonder if Louise's story has something to do with it. Its a commercial area with hotels, the airport and businesses, so other than traffic she's safe from man for the most part.

I was going to mention the Seneca deer. I have been lucky enough to see them many times, once EXTREMELY up close and personally as a huge buck bounded across the road in front of my car (which blessedly had excellent brakes).
There have been a few pinto deer in the herds that wander the wilds behind my barn. BO and family are hunters but will not take the pinto ones and have thus encouraged their coloration. They occasionally allow outside hunters and those folks also have to agree to leave the fancy ones. We had an *almost* white one a few years back but she disappeared- probably to predation as we would have head about it had she been hit or hunted.

I've seen the Seneca deer before! My husband and I stopped by the fence there once when in the Finger Lakes and we were able to glimpse three of them, right away, actually. I was surprised it was so easy to see them, but apparently there's a gazillion of them...

I'm thoroughly convinced that the population at our barn is related to the herd at the depot. Relatively close by and they're just too uncommon for it to be coincidence.
