Default A Better Sexy Rexy Update w/PICS

So splint looks good according to my vet. He said put him back to light work for a couple of weeks as long as theres no heat or swelling with that leg and then shoot an xray in 2 months. So I had Dean Graham (Mr Trainer) get on and just lightly work Rex to get back into the swing of things. Hes way braver than me! Just hops right on - no lungeing or long lining. 6 months off (well hes been out in the pasture doing horse things, etc) at a place hes been to twice, multiple other horses being worked. Rex was SO good. Def remembered his lessons from before. At first he was feeling a little fresh but to be expected. Nothing bad just some scooting sideways and some half arse spooks. No bucking or anything. Easy w/t/c in the hunter arena and then Dean took him out into the dirt arena as Rex was not having it with the puddles. So he learned how to walk through the water. Then he saw the dreaded pump house! LOL Went around it and by it but took some coaxing to go TO it. Once he did, he was so proud of himself. After a break, he took him into the dressage arena for a 3 min quick w/t with 1 canter around the track and that was it. It was perfect and he was again SO good. Hes a tired boy but is doing great. I did think he looked decent muscle wise before tacking him up today. Now seeing him go u/s, I REALLY see the lack of muscle, etc but he still doesnt look bad.

Anyways, Ill post a few favs but I uploaded like 56 photos to my FB (which is public). Yay for Mr Trainer and Mr Baby Horse!

Thankfully since this is his lateral splint, it isn't weight bearing so he's never been lame which has made these 6 months so hard!

    Thanks guys!

He looks GREAT! Just curious why he'd need 6 months off for just a splint, and especially one that wasn't making him lame? (you can PM if you'd rather) Curious because we're dealing with one in the barn right now...

I was also wondering. Most of ours have been cosmetic and the vet said to ride him like normal.

Are there various degrees of splints?

His was completely fractured in half. I can post the xrays. I wanted to avoid surgery if possible so we had to wait and see if the fracture would heal on its own. Most of the time, with it completely fractured like that, they will surgically go in and remove the piece that is separated. He wasn't lame per say (hard to see 1 to 2 circling to left on concrete 4 wks post injury) but he had to rest to allow the body to try to heal it.

OH wow, quite an ordeal, poor guy! Glad he's back to being sound...
