Default Looking for a vet in DC/VA area.

I'm looking for a vet around the Marshall, VA area to do a pre-purchase exam on an upper level eventer. I'm not from the area and could use a recommendation. Thanks!!!

VEI -- south of Middleburg. They are specialists in PPEs and lameness work on upper level sport horses.Virginia Equine Imaging. Your main problem will probably be that they are likely to have a prior relationship with the seller if it is already an upper level horse.

Piedmont Equine did mine. Very through. They are in The Plains.

Byron Young, who is the surgeon at Piedmont, and has his own practice. He did the prepurchase on 2 of ours. His truck has digital x-rays, high quality ultrasound, and basic lab work so you get answers right away. he is a nice person, as well as a very skilled vet.

VEI. Best sport horse vets in the area, Dr. Allen and Dr. Johns just about wrote the book on event horses. If it's an upper level horse, chances are it's been through their practice at one point or another, but they are ethical, responsible, and very comprehensive and you can almost always work something out with the owners even if they use VEI. I wouldn't do a pre-purchase anywhere else.

If they are willing and don't have a conflict (as others have said, the horse likely has been seen there), definitely VEI. If not VEI, then I would likely go to Piedmont.

There is also Dr. Sallie Hyman, out of Purcellville. She left VEI about a year ago, or so, but is still practicing and is VERY good. Has access to all the imaging equipment, etc, and you will have money left over to have the shoes put back on your horse after the rads are done ..... PM me for her number and email

Also, and equally as good as Sallie, is Dr. Jana Froeling, based in Amissville but goes to the Marshall area all the time. She is also a chiro/accu vet and really REALLY knows her stuff and no BS goes along with it! Can't recommend her enough. Her practice is called Full Circle Equine. http://www.fullcircleequine.com/

And of course, VEI is excellent. But there are options.

I would second a recommendation for Dr. Young, however he is not longer affiliated with Piedmont Equine. He has his own ambulatory practice.

I concur with VEI, but also strongly recommend Ian Harrison
OTTBs rule, but spots are good too!
