    Default Barn Heaters

Just wondering what type/style everyone uses? What it runs on - natural gas, electric, other?

My barn isn't huge, 30x36, and it well insulated already, but the -30 with windchill this morning has me thinking.

I don't know if the search function is working yet, but there have been lots of threads on heating tack rooms safely.

    -30 brrrrr, it's like 10C here still! .

You don't really need to heat your barn for the horses sake, just keep them blanketed and with lots of hay and they'll be fine.

If you really really want to do it, and out-door wood furnace is probably you're best bet.

I would like to heat it just enough to keep water buckets from freezing and make the cat happy, not to mention my fingers when cleaning it! A few degrees just above freezing would be fine. The wind out there is coming from the south, which means the big door is a bit drafty today and it is -2 in the barn according to the thermometre.

Heated water buckets and a small kennel type insulated home for kitty would probably be cheaper, but I just came upon one for sale (I'm sure you can find one in AB)

    wood furnace

This is an outdoor wood furnace, I've seen people use them to heat barns/shops before. Probably the safest way to do that.
