Hmmm. Based on this BBC video I think the Imams need to issue a ruling on better riding and care of the horses instead of betting.

I saw nothing wrong with the horses or the riders. They all looked fit and fine. Iran has MUCH bigger problems that deal with than horse racing on a small scale.
Say what Mike? I saw exactly one weird rider and zero poorly kept horses.
I was in Iran this past summer and saw (thankfully) only well kept and cared for horses. This is a huge change from when I was there last, which was 38 years ago. I saw horses pulling carriages in Tehran and Isfahan, and a sole horse in Yazd.

What?? Did you miss how those horses were being raced by the "jockies"?
LOL The only abuse i saw was the jockey in blue silks attempting to post to the run. poor horse's back and poor jockey's .........
Lordy Mike have you been to a horse show lately? Or too much time on youtube to get out a little? LOL
I haven't seen jockey's here flail their legs like that...no wonder they bounce on their backs rather than up and off them. (viewed at the end of the video)
