Hi Guys! I tried to update my old thread about South African life, but it wouldn't repost to the top of the forum, so here's a new one :-D.
Life is still incredible. I've been here since July and have barely a month to go . I finished my time as a volunteer, passed my BTEC Stage 2 in Leadership, and am now working for the same primary school I volunteered at. I'm based in the new library we built, which is really cool because I pretty much have free reign - my days are what I make of them. It's also been amazing to see the whole process from first talking about putting the library together to the kids actually using it. At the moment I'm introducing the kids & teachers to the library & helping the teachers come up with a long term plan for it. I've worked my way up to Grade 6. They are learning how to use an index as part of their orientation, which has been fun as I am more involved with the older kids because they speak better English. I had a week off before starting my placement, so I spent it going up the Garden Route. I went horseback riding twice and stayed in a sanctuary for Orphaned Elephants for two nights!
Very cool! I looked into the website you sent me a while back and seriously thinking of doing something over there next year. Pretty sure i'm going to need a change in scenery soon!
Love all of your pics!
Ahh yayyy!! You will love it, definitely PM me if you have any further questions. Whatever project you end up signing up for devote as much time as you possibly can, short term volunteers extend their stays on a regular basis. I actually cannot believe it is November tomorrow....time flies out here, so I'm trying to live in the moment as much as possible & not have any regrets when I do have to leave.
Alagirl - Me too :-D. And I get to spend most of the day in one, perfect.
