Default Bill Gates Rents Mansion for Equestrian Daughter

Did you know Bill Gates has an equestrian daughter?

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...yndication=rss

Bill Gates has rented a $600,000 per month home in Wellington, Florida so that his eldest daughter can be close to the Winter Equestrian Festival and for the entire family to stay over the winter, reports say.

Gates' daughter Jennifer is apparently an equestrienne on the junior circuit and plans to compete in show jumping at the Winter Equestrian Festival in West Palm Beach, which runs January to April, according to SFGate, home of the San Francisco Chronicle.

gross. $600,000 per month. Sorry, I don't care how much money you have. That's just excessive. JMHO. But it is.

Who puts such a large house, barn, and arena on five acres of land? The property itself must be worth a fortune; but where is the privacy on five acres?

I'm glad I'm from Texas (lots of land) and I'd love to see photos of the place.

For the money, I guess you could remove the barn and arena, and just have a nice neighborhood mansion estate. But in that part of Florida horse-country, there may be a need for a home like this.

Good for them and I hope their daughter wins lots of ribbons!

Pretty cool how much the gates foundation gives back. I'm glad he's stimulating the horse economy

For sale for 12M and he rents it for basically 3M? I'm not seeing that as a bargain. He needs to just buy the place and talk them down on the price.

What part of TX are you from? There are numerous places in the DFW area that fit this description. I only have 5 acres, but of course my house is slightly smaller

Sidelines had an interesting blog post last week or earlier this week, can't remember now. Here it is! It was about Bill Gates moving into the neighborhood, and how much his foundation was funded on his own pocket change.

He made the money. He can spend it as he likes. It's very close to the show grounds, his daughter can probably hack there easily on the days she competes. That's worth $$.

Believe it or not, in that part of Wellington, five acres is a relatively large piece of property. Many places there have a house, barn, ring, etc. on even less land. If they want privacy, they plant tall hedges.

Maybe it's their first time at WEF, and they want to see if they like it before they think about buying property. Who knows?

As others have said, they can spend their money as they see fit. It will help the local economy, anyway. Hopefully they will enjoy themselves and come back the next year!

Don't have an ounce of a beef with Gates or how he spends his money BUT I find it totally obnoxious that rent is half a million a month ANYWHERE. Just barfalicious.

I think the Seattle Times needs to learn how to read.

It isn't $600,000 PER MONTH, it is $600,000 for the whole Dec - May lease. So $100,000 per month, $600,000 for the WHOLE LEASE.

As reported in the Gossip Extra column that the Seattle Times credits for breaking the news.

Seriously the lease price/purchase price ratio should have rung a bell for them there...

Yeah, let 'em spend it on tack, and farriers and trainers and smoothies and grooms and show fees. Bring it on, everyone working equestrian jobs will welcome the work.
