Good sci-fi movies?
I'm on a sci-fi kick lately. I've just re-watched Firefly and Serenity.
What else should I watch?

The Time Machine
The Day the Earth Stood Still

The Star Wars Triology (the original one, not episodes I-III. huge disappointment IMHO)

YES to Iron Giant. A kids' movie for adults.
Inception.
The Running Man (classic Schwarzenegger with an absolutely BRILLIANT role for Richard Dawson.)
Total Recall (another Ahnold.)
Alien (the first one)
Outland with Sean Connery.
District 9 (Ten stars for this one.)
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
Mad Max and The Road Warrior
I Am Legend
Terminator 1 and 2
Star Trek: The Voyage Home
Star Trek - the new one with Chris Pine
Blade Runner
Waterworld (I *liked* Waterworld, a lot. I think it got a bad rap because of how expensive it was, but it's a good movie!)
28 Days Later

I love the 2 you listed also. I second Dune. I'll also put in a vote for Stargate - you can watch the movie and if you like the story line then you can pick up with the series spin off.

Moon is more a movie if you like to watch movies for execution and expertise, not for actual entertainment (since the plot is *miserably* obvious)
Sunshine
Equilibrium
The Abyss

TV? Give the Dr. Who reboot (from 2005 onwards - 9th, 10th, 11th Doctors) a try.
Most new viewers like at least one of the incarnations, and I found the tone of the 9th and 10th Doctor runs to be somewhat "Wheadon-esque". In other words, if you're a Firefly fan, you'd probably get into the Who series as well.
And then you can join the rest of us in aguing "Which Doctor is the best".

I love scifi films! I've got a huge obsession with the old 50s-60s scifi flicks, personally. But there's good stuff across the spectrum.
Oldies but goodies...
War of the Worlds (both the 1953 and more recent remake are good)
Day the Earth Stood Still (the original, not the remake)
Time Machine (again, the original not the remake)
Journey to the Center of the Earth (original, again!)
When Worlds Collide
Forbidden Planet
The Blob
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
This Island Earth
It Came From Outer Space
The Invisible Man
More recent ones...
2001: Space Odyessey
Stargate (the movie, not the show)
The 5th Element
Blade Runner (a major pioneer in the film genre!)
The Abyss
Total Recall
X-Files: Fight the Future
Star Wars
The Matrix
Terminator
E.T.
Back to the Future
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Cocoon
Jurassic Park
The Fly
Waterworld
The Andromeda Strain
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Minority Report
Soylent Green
Event Horizon
Independence Day
Dune
THX 1138
Predator
Dark City
For more comedic tastes...
Men in Black
Galaxy Quest
Mars Attacks
Spaceballs
Mad Max
(Did I mention that I really love scifi?)

"Destination Moon", from the '50s
"The Man From Planet X"
"X, The Unknown"
"The Day The Earth Stood Still" original, not remake
"The Flying Saucer"
"Doctor Strangelove" Be prepared to laugh your arse off. It's a take-off on the anti-nuke scare 'em movies of the cold war era. Yeeee-HAAAA-A-A-A!
"Red Planet Mars"
"The Next Voice You Hear"
On the fantasy side, any of the stop-motion animation films done by Ray Harryhausen.

I loved Battlestar Galactica
Gattaca was also good.
And I liked Henry Rollins in Johnny Mnemonic.

I just got into Battlestar Galactica, the new series. I'm old enough to remember watching and loving the original. Now on Saturdays they're showing back to back episodes so I've been able to watch it from the start.
I also recommend Star Trek:First Contact and The Voyage Home.
And of course the original Star Wars trilogy.
I've always loved The Last Starfighter, too.
And the original black and white The Day the Earth Stood Still. Do NOT watch the one with Keanu Reeves. Horrible movie.
