    Default PSA on Fostering

I'm not gonna lie, I love it!!

I only have foster kittens bc I work full-time and while my two dogs are used to my schedule, I wouldn't wish it on a foster dog, for both its and my sake, but the kittens are so fun. Right now I have two 8-9 week olds from a litter and mom I had from the time they were 2 days old (there were originally 5 but two died quite young of hydroencephalitis and another died slightly older of an unknown malady) asnd another litter of 5 that are about the same age and are just chillin' till they're old enough for spay/neuter.

Our local shelters are so full of animals, particualrly cats/kittens, that there's just no room. The two from the original litter would have grown up in a 18"x18" cage. It's warm-and-fuzzy-feeling to give them the chance to be in a house and have company, socilization and a "home" to grown in. To see in particular the most recent group turning from angry little hissballs to sweet, fun little kits in the span of 3 days is rewarding in and of itself. I've shuttled ones in and out and it's great to see the others getting adopted. My own pets love them for the most part and in turn the kittens are solialized with dogs and cats, making them better adoption candidates

Anyway, I just thought I'd post in case anyone was thinking of doing it. It's a great way to help out if you have the space

Molly Hatchett (the mother of the original 5; 2 survived):

Feel free to run down and adopt her!

    Her two children, Toto:

    And Roxette:

Roxette is the only out of the 15 I've had thus far that I've seriously considered keeping. She always has this dour look on her face and she is *teeny weeny* at 8ish weeks (still too small to even have her shots in fact) but her personality is second to none. She spends a majority of her time on my shoulder or chest and she just kind of ignores everyone else, does her own thing..I can't explain it, she is just an absolute special girl. She would make *4* of my own..we'll see.

These are the second litter I had, all of which have since gone back to the shelter. Left to right: Theodore, Simon, Abigail and Alvin:

Alvin and Abigail were adopted together; the other two may still be there.

And the current litter of 5, I only have pics of two..Rudolph Valentino and Marilyn Monroe:

Their siblings are Greta Garbo, Bela Lugosi and Bette Davis.

I get to name them, which is fun. I try to go with a theme each time (the original litter also included Devo, Asia and Nena). As I said, my own pets love having them around, too:

I get so much reward for fostering kittens. Right now I have two helping me type, one on the mousepad and the other on the side of the keyboard. I'm delighted to read that you love it too and be aware, keeping your occasional kitten is a hazard of the trade. I consider four cats just a starter set.

I agree. The little kittens are clearly so pleased to be out of their cages and able to run and play.

Roxette is curled up on my clavicle with Bette Davis to the right, next to one of my own, and the chi is zonked on the left. Oh, and apparently Toto is on my legs, which I just noticed bc he stretched

I really, really like it. The Alvin-Simon-Theodore-Abby group were on meds bc they had URIs and they would line up for their shot of Z-max like little troopers. I really don't mind giving them back--I clearly can't have an additional 15 as a permanent fixture--but they are really fun and make me laugh on a daily basis. It's just a win-win!!
