Like the title says...I apologize if this turns into a novel! I'm soooo happy with my pony!
Short history-I've had him for a little over a year and in 2010 we were very unsuccessful at training level. At the end of the year, started working for a trainer in washington, he started to improve, the trainer rode him for the winter. Moved again to california to work for another trainer, this trainer rode him and he continued to get better, in April I started riding him again took him Novice with a stop, then a great Novice, moved up to Training, dressage scores not great but the jumping was amazing!
So I had qualified for championships earlier, and decided to take him just for fun! I knew the xc/sj would be harder so I figured, why not!
WELL he managed to shock me!!! He was nearly perfect in dressage and scored a 30.9! Which is SIX points lower than the lowest score we had ever gotten!! That put us in 4th in the championships!
He ROCKED around the XC without a second thought! Easily the best xc I've ever had with him, probably one of my best with any horse! I was able to loop the reins at him and let him gallop and pick his pace, then just sit up and he'd come back and jump everything without a moment of hesitation! We actually managed to get speed faults since there were so many open galloping areas where he got going-and i let him since he came back so well! Still moved up into third-the best placing I've ever had on him at any training level!
He normally show jumps great, but rails were falling like crazy so I was very nervous! Horses who normally jump clean were having 2-4 rails :/ He warmed up well, and I went in and rode probably the best show jumping round I've had yet. We jumped double clean! The person in 2nd had a few, so we finished in SECOND at the area champs!!!!!!
I am still SO UNBELIEVABLY thrilled with my little pony...everyone I've talked to has said they can't believe how far he's come, that they never could have seen him doing anything when he first came to california, and never would have thought that he would place 2nd at a competitive championship! And I can't believe it either! I walked the prelim with my trainer (got dragged along so i could see my training a second time (: ) and it looked like I could absolutely go clean around it on my horse, which has never been my thought seeing a prelim before! (ok it has, but never felt THIS confident). We have one more training, then a prelim 1 day and then our first real prelim! I can't wait!
Love my horse so much, I had to share!!!
