Hey all, I posted a question on this before we got this pony, but now we are leasing her so I can post a good pic. I am dying of curiosity to see what color this mare is. She's a quarter pony/welsh cross. No idea of her parentage. She has no dorsal stripe. She has flecks of white throughout her body, almost like roaning, and while she has some frosted hairs in her mane, she does not have the typical flaxen mane needed for a palomino.
Any quesses as to her color? I would love to do a DNA test or something to find out, any suggestions on what to try?
No idea what she is, but she's awfully cute!! I used that company to find out once and for all if my gelding was black or bay/brown and got the results really quickly after I sent in the hair. Very easy to do!
It's not about the color of the ribbon but the quality of the ride. Having said that, I'd like the blue one please!
aw thanks ^^^ we adore her and one thing I can say, she is noticed. Every single show we go to, someone recognizes her from "back in the day" when she showed medium ponies. She's a superstar. I love how she stands out in a crowd for sure but I am one of those anal people who would like to call her by her correct color LOL hence the insane curiosity!
I showed Palomino before they did genetic testing for colors, and she definitely would have been called palomino then. Please share results with us if you do get her tested - I'm curious to find out what she tests as!
My horse is a dressage diva so I don't have to be.

I would guess she is palomino with some sooty which is keeping her tail and mane darker, but it is hard to say. If she had a dorsal stripe I would definitely say dun, but without it makes it a little different. She also could just be a very light chestnut, I say do the test and let us know!
ok since we don't really know what she is, and I'd definitely do a DNA test to find out... on that one website, you have to specific what you're looking for (dilute, cream etc)... and I really don't want to have to do a separate $25 test for all of them. Is there a place where you can send the mane/tail hair and they tell you the color?
IMHO all you need to test for is dilute. With no dorsal stripe, she's not a dun. Pretty sure that base coat is red. Cream is possible but unless she's a real woodpile breeding- unlikely. The only real questionin my mind is whether she's chestnut or palomino and the dilute test will tell you that.
My vote is chestnut, just a funny smutty light colored one.
She sure looks like a DOLL no matter what color she is!
ok that makes sense, so we know she's some sort of chestnut, so that's the base. But there are 4 dilutions you can test for at $25 a pop... champagne, pearl, cream and silver. I guess the creme dilute which would say whether or not she's a palomino is what you'd test for? The others don't seem to apply, she has black skin as you can see in the close up shot so the pearl and champagne seem to be out?
