One of the horse mags, I think it is THe Horse, but I could be mistaken as I subscribe to several magazines, publishs the # of horses shipped each year to Canada for slaughter. I guess there is some kind of accounting at the border or at the auction houses. Anyhow, it's close to 20,000 a year. I don't know the figures for Mexico. I have seen the articles in The Horse magazine showing the pictures of the downers and the volunteers who try to take care of them till they are slaughtered. Humane is a dirty word to those who've seen what happens to the horses before they are killed.
