Default update on Paint horse vet procedure/lawsuit/and Blooper Reel. post # 30 (new pics)

I competed in a CT this weekend.

**2 weeks earlier was our bi annual vet visit for vacc. soundness exams and general health check up.

Our vet advised that we try some treatment on Toby's back because he's always muscle sore from his lower back through his SI.

As for behavior: he insists on leaving only from the base of fences. He can dish out a chip that tops the Keebler Cookie charts.
He is pretty sloppy over verticals and after dishing out a big effort he'll usually stop at the next fence. (hence his stop at the smallest log on the TRHP HT XC BN course back in March).

**So 10 days before the show I took him to the clinic and the work was done. I was told that he would be fine to jump a little later in the week and he should be good to go for the CT.

Well, I took him to the CT and he was really un rideable.

Every fence looked like this :
THANK GOD I wore my vest~I almost needed it!
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p..._3873154_o.jpg

No more: little step, must leave from the base or I'm going to chip-in Toby.
    Now: Yee-haa hang on!

The first fence--and it only went down hill for me from there:
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p..._7436135_o.jpg

he wanted to make sure he received full credit for bascule :
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p..._5776732_o.jpg

He is now leaving the groud with both hind legs instead of just domainantly his right hind.
    look at his front leg!
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p..._5745587_o.jpg

this is me freaked out in the 2 stride because I realized he was going for it (usually he'll add a stride).
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p..._7441569_o.jpg
    oxar out:
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p..._7774354_o.jpg

I finally caught up with my body by the last fence, but I never regained control of my reins:
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p..._3582617_o.jpg

Now it seems as though I need to relearn how to ride the little bugger.
(how embarassing--I hope no one at the show recognized me )

I guess I should send my vet a thank you card.

As an attorney it is my obligation to inform you that such a suit is a waste of time. As my fee, you can just ship the useless beast to me.

That sounds like it may be a good idea. I have no room in my yard for a horse who makes me improve my riding skills. I prefer to ride horses that make me look good.

What's your address--I'll call Equine Express.

It was just simple steroid/sarapin injections along the soft tissues on either side of his back bone (more lower back region) and then deep soft tissue injections by the SI (they used a 6 inch needle and it made me queezy).

He was on bute for three days and then on the 4th day I started hacking him out.

Not only is he unrideable, but you must also be overwhelmed by his cuteness and so, as a professional, I must insist that you send him to ME. And I will handle it
You have GREAT equitation purp! Have fun with the little bugger!!!!

OMG. I was looking through the pictures and wondering, "Why the h#ll is she complaining about this? He looks wonderful!" Then I got to your last line of your post.

What a cute little bugger. I have such a soft spot in my heart for Paints.

I'm so glad you posted. I had the exact same thing done on my horse yesterday and I'm hoping it works as well for him as it seems to have done for Toby.

Now he looks as awesome as you do!

I may have to see how much this "adjustment" costs and ask the advise of my vet... I may just get to Prelim with the Goobs!

I feel your pain. I had some work done on a horse in July. Next time I saw the vet I told him I was having trouble with the horse. He got all concerned and asked what was wrong. I said nothing, he just feels so good I'm having trouble keeping up with him. He laughed and said he gets that "complaint" a lot.

Your horse has got springs for legs!! Have fun with him!

I was going "Oh goodness, this'll be a good thread ..." until I saw the pictures! Then it was a more "What is she talking about!? He looks great!" until I caught on. He looks fabulous! As you do.

    Too bad he can't jump.
He's barely clearing the fences in pictures 2 and 7!
    Just awful.
You should hide him in my barn!!

    He is AWESOME!

Pretty cool! Me thinks your vet gave you a pretty nice equine upgrade with that procedure.

Last year I had to send the surgeon at the vet school a thank you note for the bonus lobotomy that he threw in gratis with my horse's knee surgery (to close a bad cut over his knee). Horse came back (and has remained) notably saner than he had been for several previous years.
    Hindsight bad, foresight good.

He's ADORABLE. Did you guys SEE his little ears pricked up at each fence. What a little trooper!

    Enjoy!

Toby has some blog entries...in case some of you guys haven't seen them.

    He's pretty silly.

I'll mention to him that it might be time to start working on a new one.
He has a recognized HT at the end of Sept...he may wait until that is past a write up something great.

So, I'm left standing here with a big bucket of popcorn & a chilled beverage, cuz your title sounded like a setup for a Perfect Trainwreck...

    Congrats to you & Toby!
Is it not awesome to fix the owies and get a new horse back in return?
