Default Number of buttons for honorary whipper-in?

I think I know the answer to this, but is the correct number of front buttons for an honorary whipper-in four (4)? The MFHA materials suggest this is the case, but they are not entirely clear.

    Thanks in advance.

It may vary from hunt to hunt. Ask your secretary or MFH.

Four is 'traditionally' correct. With square corners on the coat.

But as Equibrit notes, each Master may have their own livery standards for staff (honorary as well as professional) and is the 'final word' for the particular hunt.

Usually one less than your MFH
four is most common as most Master's wear 5 button coats

I was under the impression that Masters and other staff wore four and only the Huntsman wore five as a standard practice.

Obviously that can and does vary in practice.

I was given four as a honorary whipper in and if I remember right, that was staff numbers, the master five.
That was 40+ years ago, still have the buttons.
The numbers they use today may be different.
