Default Easiest Way to Crush Pills?

My horse is on 30 Isoxsuprine pills a day (15 twice a day) for three weeks. He is going to be doing his 30 days stall rest at my trainers and I want to make it easy for him and have all the pills already crushed in labeled baggies. What is the easiest and fastest way to crush them into powder? I have one of those pill crushers from the pharmacy but you can only crush one or two pills at a time.

    TIA

little coffee grinder...either electric or battery powered. I usually do the old fashioned method though and use my little mortar and pestle.

Seconding the coffee grinder idea -- a white or light colored one well marked with its new dedicated purpose!

Be careful of breathing in the dust as you open it.

(Also check whether and how long the drug will retain its effectiveness if you grind it up.)

Any chance your horse will just eat them whole in his grain. The few time I have fed Isoxsuprine they ate the pills without a problem.

    Otherwise use the coffee grinder.

70-80 Doxy twice a day for weeks.... (70 I think, I forget) Good girl ate em whole in her grain, every last one... failing that, I definitely would have bought a coffee grinder for the task...

Get a cheap Coffee Grinder!!!! My mare caught on to all the pills in her beet pulp and now I have to dose her with a syringe. My coffee grinder is my friend!!!

We bought a marble mortar and pestle off the bargain table at a high end kitchen appliance and tools shop. I think we paid $5 for it. Works great with one tab or a dozen big ones (like tribris).

Its been a few years since I used it, but IIRC, Isoxsuprine dissolves really well in just a little bit of water, have you tried that?

Dissolve in some flat coke/diet coke, pour over grain.

Hands down easiest way I've used is a large syringe and hot water. Makes a paste and is easy to give like a wormer.

I bought a case of the mini sized water bottles. Just drop the pills in, give a little shake, and pour over grain. I set it up a day or 2 in advance so all my feeder had to do was pour it into my mare's grain.

I checked with the vet last night and it was ok to crush the pills in advance so I ended up crushing all 1000 pills in the coffee grinder (15 pills at a time). It worked like a charm I gave him his first dose last night and he didn't even notice it in his grain. 15 pills didn't produce as much powder as I imagined it would.

Thanks for all the great suggestions

I also had a mare on 15 isoxsuprine 2x a day and she ate them whole in her grain. Coffee grinder is a great idea for that many!

This is the one I have:

    http://www.smartpakequine.com/pill-c...x?cm_vc=Search

I used to use the coffee grinder, was not happy with the dust and waste (I didn't think it was good to have all that flying around the kitchen with everyone breathing and touching it).

If the horse won't eat them whole, and if they won't readily dissolve in water, I put pills in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

Isox has no taste so they will just eat them whole. Munchkins Mom, it is a human medicine prescribed for premature labor (that's why you have to give so many pills--they were made for us) so you are right to eschew the dust.
