OK, here is the main site with both arenas, the week's schedule, finalists lists, etc.

Did anyone watch the prelims besides me? Was anyone else disappointed in the quality of the rounds, especially in equitation? Maybe it's just the year, but I saw way too many riders with reins too long, stirrups too long, and way too loose in the saddle. The jumpers, minus about 5 riders, were just down right scary.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the finals for the eq over fences or working hunter - had to take the pup to the vet and I wasn't smart enough to check the finals schedule before I made the appointment.

BTW, jumping is coming on now.

Didn't catch the Jumping prelims, but I will say that the finals were quite the improvement over a few years ago. Didn't see any in the finals that gave me a heart attack!

I saw a big chunk of working hunter (but not the winner, rats) and really liked the Reserve Champion, Top This Shenanigan. He was my pick the whole way

Oi, I keep yelling at the computer to pick up your hands and quiet your leg! I like the sweet and forgiving horses though!

OveroHunter, that is one thing I have always liked about QH's...the ability to take a joke! Some of those horses were taking a comedy series!

LOL, every time I consider taking my paint into a breed show, I either go to youtube or look up pics of these shows and just shake my head and go to a GHJA show instead. I really want to see how they place an equitation class.

About 2 more hours of cutting prelims, then Hunter Hack, Hunter Under Saddle, and Flat Eq (which can be good or wenglish, depending on how huntery and flowing the pattern is. Some years the Eq O/F winners have actually won the flat eq also. when the pattern allows them to shine ).

Re: taking a joke. Because of the system of state qualifying for this show, out of 60 entries o/f , about a third will not belong in the ring, a third will do OK, and a third will be really good. Just the way it is, as this show is as much about fun and camraderie with other kids from around the country, as about high level showing.

Oh yes, Plumcreek I know. My brother and sister both showed at the youth world when it was in Tulsa (Both were top ten Jumping and Working Hunter in the 80's). The state qualifying really makes a free for all in some of the events. I have been watching it for a number of years now, and it just seemed this year in particular was painful. I don't remember that many loosy gooseys in the past years.
I never had the opportunity to show at the youth world, even though I was the only youth QH member in Nebraska who showed over fences and would have been willing to go. Alas, I had to settle with going to the Medal and Maclay finals...

What a rough life you had.

Plumcreek, I'm all for anything that gets children involved with horses. I just wish the AQHA concentrated on improving the children as much as they concentrated on keeping the horse's head low. At the end of the day, I'm a huge supporter of the AQHA and wish that we saw improvement in the kids riding ability every year.

Thanks for the congratulations guys! My horse was just phenomenal for me! I was super nervous going in, considering I schooled horribly the night before. But, we stepped in the arena and Moose immediately knew what was going on!

    Here's my go :

(Not my youtube account.. A friend of mine recorded my go for me)

    Thanks again
