Scary pic...
Actually saw this picture in the Adelaide Advertiser the other day since the photographer is retiring after 40 years of taking pics.
Its of Sam Lyle on Foxdale Royal Venture at the Adelaide 4 star back in 2000.
crazy picture
I can't find the 2nd picture which is equally impressive which is both of them walking away totally fine. I would imagine pretty sore specially with the horse landing on that ledge.
Posting more from the photography side of things. Like seeing eventing in the papers just perhaps not in this sense normally.

Flipping pulitzer winner, that one.... If it didn't get one, it should have.
Horse is perfectly vertical, with head upside down and backwards underneath the jump.
Rider hasn't hit the water
Rider's reflection visible in the water
I've done that one on a motorcycle at 45mph. Now I know what it looked like.

Unbelievable that both weren't hurt. From where the horse's head is, I can't believe his neck didn't snap on the edge of the water when his body somersaulted over.

I did a bit of research and this pair had been sitting in 2nd going into XC . Overall he didn't seem to compete much after 2001 so this may have had lasting issues.
And this picture won second place in the World Press Photo competition in sport section in 2000 as well.

This is the same Royal Venture that Kim Severson imported from Australia. He almost did the same with Kim at the Kentucky water in 2006.

Not certain if I'd want to see what took first, that picture was a bit much for this beginner's brain. However, I remind myself that life is risk, just driving to work is fraught with danger (do we even remember how to use a damn blinker, much less the gas petal).
It really really helps to know they both walked away.
So where's the delete image in my head button.
