    I was surprised to find that no one set off fireworks out in their yard/street this year; everyone seemed to have gone to big public displays, which we could barely hear, so it went really well. Only had mildly nervous animals instead of freaking out animals.

    That's a great idea, but I suspect the fireworks-setting crowd wouldn't like the idea of (gasp) government control. God forbid anyone try to curb their instinct for self-destruction and property damage.
