Default Excellent stadium round over 8 fences sadly there were 10

Had a lovely stadium round over some decent sized brightly painted fences. Felt largly in control although I need to work more on controlling the canter. Jumped all 8 fences out of stride.

    Sadly there were 10 fences.

Fence 8 was 1/2 stride next to the ungated exit. We jumped fence 8 and bounced 90 degrees right out the gate. I believe I said some bad words.

I was left dangling off the side, right leg hooked over, right hand buried in her mane as we cantered down a paved road. I considered bailing but had no intention of doing so on the road.

So, while yelling "whoa god dammit" while staring at the underside of her muzzle (need to clip those whiskers) I reached up, grabbed both reins, and halted her, then jumped off on my feet.

Quite spectacular. I amazingly held onto my whip. Got some clapping.

That's a round you will always remember, hopefully with a large grin.

Way back in high school, I took a horse to a show to do the equitation division. Simple course - four jumps on the rail, jump them on the left lead for the first jumping class, then the right lead. Go around twice to make 8 jumps. Well, this horse liked to cut left and when practicing, due to the other riders in the arena, I was only able to jump four. The jumps were set at 2'3" or thereabouts.

The class was in an indoor with essentially a 2x4 set at about 3' as the gate. My instructor and a fellow student were standing on the outside watching me.

So, after four he decided he was done. Cut left, jump the 'gate', right between my instructor and other student - thought I was going to take someone's head off! I was told I had good form over that jump, though, if that counts!

That is a great story!! I would have clapped for you too (unless I had a camera, in which case I'd be taking lots of pictures)

What a positive attitude! But I hope next time there's no unplanned exit...or dismount...but good on ya for not bailing on the road!

Awesome story - sounds like you rode it out quite well! Hopefully next time you will be equally as impressive, but stay in the ring for all 10 jumps and impress the crowd that way!
