Default What is up in Germany

Are the Hanoverians and Oldenburgs merging? I saw a press release about the retirement of a Hanoverian (government ?) official and his taking on a job for the two registries (private ? ). Just curious about the business plan.....

    Here it is:

On July 1, 2011, the head of public relations at the Hannoveraner Verband, Dr. Enno Hempel, will retire from active work to fully focus on his job as head of the Pferdeland Niedersachsen GmbH. He will represent the interests of the shareholders, made up of the Hanoverian and the Oldenburg breed society, the equestrian sport associations Hanover and Weser-Ems, as well as the two Lower Saxonian pony breed societies. The aim of this important initiative is to launch projects that are of vital importance for the equestrian world in Germany.

Appropriate measures have been taken at the Hannoveraner Verband to ensure a harmonious transition to Dr. Hempel's retirement at the end of next year. With this change in staff, the tasks in the public relations and marketing department will be redistributed.

Dr. Enno Hempel joined the Hannoveraner Verband after graduating from high school in the fall of 1966 to start work as an auction rider. He worked as an assistant to the former auction manager Hans Joachim Köhler and held many other positions, always successfully tackling new challenges. In 1988, a permanent position to establish the marketing and public relations department followed. Dr. Hempel will remain available to assist the Verband with single projects. An official farewell ceremony will be held next year.

    Default Alexandra has it right

Dr. Hempel has been an organizing force behind moving the Young Horse Championships to Verden. He is reaching mandatory retirement age at the HV. So this is a logical move. The company will do what we in the US have been trying to do for years-act as an umbrella for the registries in the area and promote horses, events, shows, etc. The man is a marketing genius with dedication to the horse.

I don't perceive any merging inferences or connotations in that article between the 2 registries.

The Pferdeland Niedersachsen GmbH is a horse society and people who are active breeders in Hanover and Oldenburg as well as other breeding registries belong to this horse society.

    No that is not true.
The GmbH in the name stands for Gesellschaft mit Beschränkter Haftung which is a form of a company that is clearly defined by law. One could translate it or put it on equal terms with something like: limited liability company. So the Pferdeland Niedersachsen is clearly a company, that has to do bookkeeping and pay taxes if a gain occurs.
A company can not have members like a a breeding association.
The Pferdeland Niedersachsen is no horse society and for sure active breeders do not belong to this company. (well only if they are actually partners/owners of this company and happen to be also breeders.)

Hmm. Thanks for clarifying Alexandra - your translation is better. I looked up the company, but had to use a translation because I am not fluent in written German - - what was translated made it a horse society, so the translation was grossly off-base. I tried to copy and paste what I read in English, but when it pasted it came back as German so that was of little help to me or anyone else on here.
