    Default Harley VDL?

Does anyone have any Harley foals coming this year or next?

I bred to him in 2009? (I think) and didn't get a pregnancy.

I tried Harley once this year with no pregnancy. The semen looked good under the miscroscope but no result with my 4 year old mare.

Ponygirl you must have similar taste in stallions as I do or you have a similar type mare. I'm very interested in Harley as well as Crespo. I do know that Crespo has incredible frozen semen and super bloodlines. Harley I do not know about semen quality but I keep on getting drawn back to him. I think Harley would be great for my Calypso II mare but I think Crespo would be a better match for my Ironman mare. Of course I'm already planning for next year and most likely will change my mind a few more times.

I was hoping to hear of success with Harley frozen. I have a dose for a Carolus I mare if she didn't take with Catoki.

Crespo is another I really like but the mare that suits him is not a frozen candidate.

We have always been drawn to Harley as well...interesting to hear about the success/failure with the FS. I have a suspicion that this year may have been a difficult one...we have had to re-breed more mares this year than ever before.

We'll be trying Harley on our our Ariadus/Cheenook mare. She'll be bred this next cycle so I'll report back how things go. Fingers crossed!

I have always really liked Harley and was surprised to not have seen him used much. Maybe it is that people have tried but are not getting pregnancies?

I did just breed a mare with Crespo and the semen was very good under the mircoscope, but obviously we all know how that goes. The final answer will be in a couple weeks.

Hoping you have success with the Harley as I really like that stallion and will be interested to see how the FS works, and how the foals turn out.

Good to know about Crespo. Fingers crossed for you! You're due for some different luck!

Thanks! I sure hope so. I finally bought a mare who had been bred successfully with frozen so lets hope at least she will come through, since nobody else wants to!

For what it's worth, there IS very good frozen semen here in the US for his 1/2 brother, Cevin Z (same dam; Coriall Z x Larthago). At the moment, Cevin's only approved AES, but there's talk about trying to get him approved with another "more acceptable" registry (for the main US warmblood books). Cevin was the highest selling foal at the Z auction his year, and went to England, hence the AES approval. He has one approved stallion son and has been one of the top producing stallions in England (winners/high placings in every Young Horse Championship since his foals have been old enough to compete, as well as a CCI** winner already). He's owned by The Billy Stud (William Funnell) and is standing at West Kington Stud in the UK. He's also being shown by a 12-yr-old boy this year...after several years off (retired from International competition due to a hind-leg injury in the breeding shed), which speaks volumes for his temperament. The semen in the US is with Equine Stallion Services at www.emcostallionservices.com.

I like Harley as well. Just got a dose of Crespo that will be bred to Valentine for II (had previous Hunter foal champions for KWPN-NA).

Harley is on my list for next year

Harley is a great stallion very nice type and jump.
He has been popular for us and his semen is excellent to work with we have had great success with it many mares in foal using only one dose so we know his semen works very well.

Nice. Bummed that his frozen doesn't seem to yield any foals here.

Tried with Frozen last year... Not successful. However, Love the stallion and if we can align the stars, he's worth another try on our Lux Z mare.

I tried him last year with no success. I still have some doses of him but I want to hear from anyone having success before trying him again.

The only Harley I have seen or heard of were imported, not born in America. So if there was any, where are they. I would love to hear from these breeders.

Not one has been registered KWPN-NA. Yet, they sell the semen to us anyway which is surprising given VDLs reputation.

    Personal experience...

    3 doses of Harley VDL
    + Proven young fertile mare
    + Top Repro Vet
    + 3 picture perfect breedings
    = 0 Harley VDL pregnancies

Unless you enjoy banging your head against the wall, losing a breeding season and throwing money away, I'd highly recommend using another stallion.

I've since been told that the semen was crap.
