Default Little Black Beetles in VA

I've noticed these little black beetles at our farm. A friend asked me what they were and I had no idea. Besides being an icky bug they don't seem to be bothering the horses. But should we worry about them?

Description or photo of the beetles would be helpful. "Little black beetles" doesn't give me much to go on...

    Aren't most beetles black?

Maybe they are the wacko jacko beetles? Japanese Beetles.

I've been finding them floating in my horse's water buckets lately, little shiny black beetles. I was not worried about them.

warrenton, va here. we get em too! they are roughly an inch long, no pincers, all black. do not fly. very crunchy sound when you step on them, LOL!

we have them in our tack/feed room. when we drop hay from the loft and leave the bales on the floor, they seem to infest the hay. had to toss a bunch out when we first noticed them. they arent up in our loft thank god! have to squish em when i see em, im too paranoid to spray any bug killer around my barn.

it's odd though, i have never seen them before. i think with all the rain we got early this year the flies, bugs, ticks, etc are worse than they are usually.
