    Default Fashion: Key Pieces

I've been going through my closet...major re-organization project at hand and got to thinking...

What key pieces can you not live without? What items did you splurge on? What pieces do you think every woman should own?

My key pieces for every season are:
    -Diamond Studs
    -Silver/Gold/Diamond Hoops
    -Great stilettos
-LBD (one really nice little black dress)
    -Hermes silk scarves
    -Blazers (navy/black/white)

    What are yours?

    Oh how I love clothes.

    For me:

A black, white, gray, and brown cardigan. I really love cardigans and you can pair them with anything.
My black patent stilettos. They're Nine West and I bought them, VERY gently used, at Goodwill for five bucks. I nearly cried tears of joy that day.
    Silver hoop earrings.
    A skinny belt.
    A basic little black dress.
An awesome fitting pair of jeans.
Strappy camis. Great for wearing under sheer or low-cut shirts.
A good pair of dress pants for work.
A stylish pair of sneakers or flats. I actually do wear flats sometimes.
    A denim jacket.

    If we're talking barn gear:

    Fitted basic tees
    Straight leg jeans
    Fleece jacket
    Thin sweaters

Things I have loved for 20 years and wear weekly (in season):

A real, quality southwestern medium sized (made from old silver quarters) concho belt that can be adjusted from waist to hip size, and will be in fashion over my lifetime.

A small version (made from old silver dimes) of same that can fit through belt loops of dress pants, will also jazz up work suits over my lifetime.

A long wool southwestern sweater from Ralph Lauren of Woolrich, never go out of style.

Silver southwestern flattened, engraved, bead necklace, mid length.

Subdued Hawaiian shirts (men's usually) also never out of style. Some very subtle, some with orchids and parrots.

A black panne velvet long sleeved tee.

A perfect fit pair of black jeans, slightly stretchy, mid rise for versitility.

I think you are in college, so that's going to be a lot different than us middle aged gals.

I always have one pair or black and one pair of brown dress pants.
A fitted white button down shirt, you can accessorize it a lot.
A blazer or a nice cardigan.
I love scarves, and I think they dress you up and make you look unique. I learned to tie them on youtube =)
One of those long necklaces, I think Target has great inexpensive jewelry.
Gold and silver earrings in a tasteful style.
A pair of black jeans. They can go dressy.
I like a long sleeved or 3/4 sleeve cotton t, that's kind of dressy and fun.
A black 3/4 length sleeve shirt in a nice fabric, goes with everything.
    A little black dress.
A skirt that goes with your tops.
I am a shoe collector, but I just satisfy my Emelda Marcos addiction by going to the Goodwill and buying them for $3.

My husband is fanatical about carry on luggage only, and I have gone to Europe with one small carryone bag for two weeks. Makes you really consider what you must wear!

For the barn: dark colored breeches in a heavier weight fabric that doesn't show the lumps, long tshirts that go over my fanny, since it's not that small anymore, gloves, hard hat.

Plumcreek - where did you find such a neat belt?

Ditto to many of the above suggestions; my list would be
-one good pair of black and one good pair of khaki pants
-dark wash jeans with a little stretch - they feel great and stay nicer longer
-nice structured blazer in tweed or navy - you can dress it up or down
    -simple silver necklace
-pair black pumps iwth a mid heel - good with jeans or dress pants
-tops in a fabric that is wash and wear - I have several with either a defined waist or a wraparound - kind of a stretchy fabric so no ironing or wrinkles

Today I hit a yard sale EARLY - 7:45 - and cleaned up - two Liz Claiborne suits, 9-10 summer tops, two additional skirts, another blazer, a pair of Oleg Cassini pants in WHITE (a good friend who also rides was snickering with me about the idea of a horseman owning white pants) - and a few other things - for forty bucks!
    Dee

PS - anybody have any suggestions for what to do with a pair of slightly-too-short jeans? Lace trim? I can wear them to the barn but they are NICE jeans! Sorry to sidetrack!

Add a wide band of tapestry type ribbon to the hem, and maybe some little embellishment up top to balance the new hem line, like small bling on pocket top or something

Put them inside some mid-calf or knee-high boots!

I know that I can't live without at least one pair of sturdy, reasonably comfortable boots with a mid heel that can dress up or down. Also a pair of dark jeans that can dress up or down.

Roll them up and wear them like capris. I don't like regular capris that much, I always just roll my jeans. It works best if they're slim or straight leg, although sometimes I do it with boot cuts.

Scarves - not wintery ones, but silk/rayon/linen
    Black pencil skirt
    Blazers
    A few cotton weekend dresses
A nice suit that can also be worn as separates
    Boots
    Nice flats
A pair of heels in a color other than black
