    Default Welsh Pony Pedigrees

wondered if anyone can tell me anything about this pedigree?
I'm new to welsh ponies. This is the pedigree of my 4 year olds sire. Love everything about my pony, but curious to know more about the lines..

The Dixie ponies were grand old ponies. Our first Welsh stallion was Dixie Prince, a Dixie Affirmed son. He was the kindest pony.

The man that had Dixie Pony Farm was so nice. Somewhere stashed in a box I have the greatest video he sent me many, many years ago. He walked out in his field with his video camera and talked about each pony on tape. It was really wonderful.

The Dixie ponies (and offspring) I've had contact with were a heavier, old fashioned type of pony, real good citizens with a nice work ethic.

Here are a couple old pictures of Dixie Prince, who passed away a number of years ago. I think these pictures were taken 18-19 years ago.

Haven't seen that line in the Hunter Pony world.

Big B's up to 14.2 hands, old blood and built more like Connemara's (minus the heads**) as far as bone and structure.
got the size from the Damline to Tango

Coed Coch Prydrdd was used with the Lithgow,Dixie and early in the Gayfields program

Vbred is correct in that they are/were not "hunter" ponies so much as big solid foxhunting type ponies...

** no hating from my Conn. friends

I had a pony from Gretchen by the stallion she posted above. Best pony ever! Not the fanciest, but super saintly. She has taught like 5 kids to ride and is still out there doing her job at age 17. That one was the first pony that started it all for me....I think I am ten ponies later thanks to that sweet girl!

Thanks everyone.. my girl is quite refined and I'm in love with her temperment.. to die for and totally safe. I originally bought this one potentially as a resale project, but love her so much I just bought her full sister.
She is ridden by an 11 yr old and is a saint. Incredibly smart and talented. Lovely over fences but has potential to do FEI Pony in a few years..

For now I'm doing welsh shows and sport Pony with good results. We're just thrilled with her.

She is still a wee bit dramatic about contact and ducks her head in a bit but shes coming along really well.

Very nice! Good luck with her. You are new to welsh ponies?...Welcome to the breed. What I love about them is that beyond their beauty they just have a kindness and a sensitivity about them that they are just born with. They are truly born a willing partner and they seem naturally drawn to children. But beware....they are like potato chips!

I'm completely addicted to the welsh's now lol. I think its something I will stick with and I'd love to learn more about the lines.
Mine is a saint for the junior but can be cheekier for me if she feels like it but NEVER has she ever offered to bolt, buck, rear or pull any dirty tricks. Shes incredibly honest and doesnt bat an eye at anything. Her idea of a tantrum is stomping a tiny little hoof lol

I just bought her last july, She's really bloomed this year. Your so right.. she LOVES her junior to bits, they have a very unique bond. I cant wait to get her sister going, shes just a yearling though.. Just as nice ( maybe slightly fancier)
