Ummm, I've never seen it while doing their rounds (on course), I certainly know a couple folks who'll take a little edge off with a smidge of something. Me, I prefer a blue doll http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...on_biggrin.gif

Who doesn't have at least 1 Bloody Mary in the morning while showing?? The Vodka Tonic in the afternoon, and Martinin's after the show??? http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif

Andrew it has been many many years since I have shown a horse, and I never did so with cocktails. I was a bad enough rider on limited enough horse flesh that it was not an available option to me. That is not to say that when the wife shows, I do not make it a point to become incoherent.

The paso fino people do this to show off the smoothness of their horses' gaits. Might be time to switch disciplines!

    http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif Oh Harry..ROFLMAO

Watching loved ones compete does require some chemical help as does watching a Pro on your own horse http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif

Actually I don't. Found it hurt more then helped, I suck or I don't. Drink or Paxil doesn't matter other then falling asleep on long approaches to single oxers or thinking everything is hunky dory as the horse hooks a leg due to lack of rider leg and goes down in a heap.

Sober and not(too) hung over is the only thing that allows things to work these days.

I was at a show a few weeks ago where they were giving jello shooters to the competitors as they went in the ring. Now that's my kinda show! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...on_biggrin.gif

I've only ridden drunk at home, and my horse always takes me back to her stall, so I'm sure if I did that at a show, we'd end up in the trailer with me on her! http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif

I tried at one show but drank too early and lost my buzz (what little buzz I had). I've heard of quite a few people taking anti-anxiety drugs to help with their nerves in the show ring.

lol! The Jello shooters reminds me of something... My sis is in Vet School, and at their parties, instead of just Jello Shots, its Jello Syringes (No needles, Big on the Vodka Lol) and Rectal Exam Glove balloons!

On a serious note, I took some Bach Rescue Remedy this past weekend at a show and rode better than I ever have. I am a believer. Google it and get yourself some. It's 27% percent alcohol. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif

I have used rescue remedy, it works.

I have found Kava Kava works too, although I have heard it's bad for the liver.. so I don't take it anymore.

I have tried a couple of sips of a cocktail to calm nerves. I didn't like it.. I want all my wits about me when I am navigating a jumper course on top of a 1500 pound horse.

LOL this is goign to sound INSANE, but it's good to do this meditation type thing. You just shut your eyes and think of nothing but the color blue, block out sounds and emotions, just be calm. It works, I swear. Especially for us juniors for whom chemical help is unavailable.
