Default FLORIDA People: Barn Suggestions near Eglin AFB? Any discipline really...

Need barn suggestions near Eglin AFB Florida - with reasonable rates, and excellent care for a very special older gelding.

My sister, her horse, and her husband will (most likely) be moving there this summer, he should find out soon!

They don't know where they will live yet, so geography of the barn isn't of paramount importance at the moment... maybe they can find a place near the horse

    Thanks!!

    Bumping.

Just saying "any" discipline because care of the horse is paramount, and they can trailer out for lessons anyway

Check to see if Eglin still has their on site stables. I'm not sure if they do as this was like 20 years ago.

    Other than that
    Rocky Bayou Stables in Niceville
    Southern Cross in Destin
There is also another place across the bay that the name escapes me.

I'm sure there are some small farms but I have no idea. There is a tack shop in Pensacola that they can check with too for other names.

Thanks for the leads! That is a good start. Apparently they did look at the base stables while down there on a 24 hour house hunting trip but there were no pastures?

Will pass her the above names asap! I thought there were a ton of barns around the gulf coast, even after Katrina.... arent there big hunter shows down there anymore?

If you're interested in traveling to Pensacola, I've worked with Jodi Bondar at Pinnacle Point Farm. It is an excellent facility and she goes to the A shows in Gulfport, Atlanta, and HITS Ocala.

Pensacola has a great "local' Hunter Jumper Association, and so does Tallahassee (Southern Hunter Jumper Association). Unfortunately they'll be 4 or 5 hours in the least from ANY A shows!!!
PM me and I can get you some farm names there with good care/training/etc........
and I'm pres of SHJA and can get them in touch with the local show scene!
There are some good dressage barns/folks around there too/!....Southern Cross/ the Kelly's??

I would suggest PM'ing EverAfterFarm. She doesn't do boarding, but I am sure she could recommend or advise against some facilities out that way, or at least give you some names of places to check out.

    Good luck on your search!

If you don't like the base stables, then I would check out Willow Creek in Crestview. It's 20 mins from the base and gives good care. Owner is a H/J trainer and hubby is an excellent farrier, all people are welcome you do not have to do h/j. Very laid back friendly atmosphere. Lots of turnout, nice big arena, a/c tackroom, etc. PM me if you want the number.

My sister said when she went to look on base, there was no turnout.

Horse is older (semi retired, but still works regularly) and has been in a lovely grass turnout situation, so a good amount of turnout is important.

    PMd you everafter!!

    Thanks!

Just a quick reply, I also know of one about an hour and a half away from Eglin, by a town called Alford. It's a private family facility with a few boarders who do pony club. PM me for more info if she's still looking.
