Default What can my horse show in??

So what can my horse show in? She is 4 1/2, she will be 5 in August. I was told when I got her she had been shown at one show as a 3 year old by a professional in the baby hunters (it was 18") and in a flat class.

Can she show in the baby greens? Also what else can she show in? I'm new to this and any info would be great!! I have never had to deal with what classes a young horse can go in, she is my first youngster. Also can she qualify for anything? Again any info on anything would be great. Thanks!! :-)

It depends on a few things...

Your inquiry is pretty broad, as you haven't stated what level rider you are or what sort of program your horse is in--is she jumping? Doing courses?

Are you working with a trainer? Your trainer should have all the information you need to get started and that should be your first stop when looking for information.

What area of the country are you in?

There are local and national organizations in every area of the country. Normally for a membership fee you will get access to show schedules, trainer directories, circuit or year end award point standings, etc.

For example, my two locations, VA, and NY, each have local shows and larger, nationally rated shows. Local circuits offer good opportunities to get started close to home, and if it's your pleasure, to make a run at some circuit awards. National shows offer exposure to the highest levels of riding, training, and competition; only the best, most well-prepared entries will take home prizes at these.

My advice would be to first determine what your local organizations are--if you provide us with your location, COTH posters will certainly provide this info. There are also usually flyers, prize lists and notices at your local feed and tack supply stores. Prize lists include a list of classes in a show, as well as eligibility criteria for each division.

Find some shows close to you, and attend one as a spectator--even better if you have a trainer, and can go watch other clients as they participate. You'll be able to compare your horse and yourself to others you see competing, and that way determine what level classes will be most appropriate for you.

She sounds like she is eligible for everything at USEF rated show. There is no 18" rated divisions at rated shows so that show does not count. She can do the baby greens or pre greens or whatever division you want
