Default Need insurance company reccomendation for trial period and lease.

Hey guys, you've been so much help in the past I'm hoping you can help me find what I need again.

I am leasing my mare out and we are doing a month's trial, there are reasons on both parties part for the month trial.

I need to find an insurance company who will be willing to insure her for the month trial and then the year at a time after that. Of course a reasonably priced company would be preferred. My mare is not insured at this point in time as she has been on vacation.

We need to get this figured out by the first. Thanks in advance.

I've used Horse Insurance Specialists and EMO both with great satisfaction. I was extremely unhappy with Markel and would advise you to stay away from them. The EMO & HIS were empathetic, courteous, and quick to mail me my check. Neither had ridiculous exclusions after a claim. Both encouraged me to take my horse to a referral clinic when he wasn't improving.

    Hope that helps

Thanks, I'm seeing a lot of good things about EMO and Halmark.

I just insured one I sent out to a sale barn two weeks ago. I tried to get a short term policy with several companies and it was a no go (you can get short term mortality though). I will end up trading mine plus $ for another horse (if the PPE goes well Monday!) so will get all but $300 back on the other horse's policy. Not sure about a short term lease policy though as I have never leased before....someone will come along with an answer no doubt!

I have used Hallmark for several years now. I have never had to file a claim (knock on wood) so I can't give you a complete review. When I have done trials they have had me setup a policy but not pay the premium for the first 30 days. At 30 days you can either pay the policy or let it cancel. Obviously if you need to file a claim within that time you will owe the preium, but otherwise you can walk away.

They are very fast with the binders and pleasant to work with as well.
