What trends are you seeing in the Hunter/Jumper world that you wish would just go away?
What trends have left the Hunter/Jumper world that you are so glad have left and wouldn't want to come back?

I'm a member of your clique. I was a junior for one year when they made the new rule, and showed in a non GPA approved. I doubt I would do that now because no one really does, but yay.

It's all over now baby blue..

Puke green TS.
Martingales as decorative devices.

NEVER want to see another madras hunt coat (yes kiddies, they did exist)!

A trend I'd like to see come back: color-coordinating your outfit to complement your horse. OH I remember some loffly turnouts!! In fact, if I end up showing next season, I very well might do just that.

Along with the sparkly stripes........... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif

amen! ugh. I also wish some of the equatition trends would die... like no-release over the jumps and long sturrips and lunging horses till they are ready to drop... not to mention glitter on anything but small/medium childrens ponies. And loud colors as the lining on shadbellys... I could go on forever!!!

O.K. here goes...

1. loose, drooping chin straps (just stupid)
2. ear nets on jumpers ( I know, I know...but it's over.
3. TS green (how did this even start?)
4. first names (as opposed to monograms or initials) on chokers. (they look great on a gas station uniform, though)

1. Tall boots on children 12 and under.
2. Too long stirrups.

i totally agree with the loosing tall boots for kids 12 and under! there is just no purpose to buy a little kid an expensive pair of tall boots when they are going to out grow them in year or so. also i just dont think that it looks appropriate.

LOL, all of the above! However, even though I'm a member of the anti-GPA clique...I hinestly think those new CO's in those colors and prints are FAR worse! Lord have mercy, I never thought I'd see the day when pimp-olicious was a fashion choice for equestrian sports! Waiting in trepidation to see the platform tall boots and low rise britches to go with them. (Wait, the latter is already here! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...s/icon_eek.gif )
I'm also hoping to see talent replace drugs again for riders/horses. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif

For trends that have left (and needed to go!) unapproved helmets, madras coats (saw those in my day too, blech!) and never having any color but bay in the show ring.

I like how the hunters dress in a very "formal" traditional wear but why do you HAVE to wear blue, brown, green, or grey jackets?! I wish we could wear brighter colors, like the western showers. Also, whats up with the guarders? I think those things are sooo lame. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif
I also hate how some judges wont pin appys! I love mine and he is a SAINT! Whats up with the mothers that arent happy when thier children did thier first jumping course and placed 3rd?! Its like, Come on, showing should be fun! Also, the judges can sometimes discriminate. Like seeing a chestnut with a blaze would pin 1st even though it was on the wrong lead part of the time and the loud paint that had daisy cutter movments doesnt place at all. At least with jumpers you go over the jump at the fastest speed and you win. You dont have to have the best lookin horse in the world. http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/yes.gif

- glitter anywhere on a horse or human
- 5 million braids being standard (damn whoever started this... those who braid their own curse your existance!)
- helmet stripes and stickers in the hunters
- $250 saddle pads (hello sheepskin halfpad)
- braiding a poor animal to within an inch of its dignity with bright pink wool and pompoms (saw this one on Valentine's Day in WPB)

I agree and can only hope n pray that something more attractive/affordable will edge out the GPAs and TS greens in 2004. I love the look of tall boots on lil kids. Glitter is only cute on smalls and must whisper not scream

Hair nets!!!

Reminds me of Taco Bell workers. Whats wrong with brushing your hair neatly back, maybe putting a few hair pins or barretts if you need them, but a hair net? Tacky, yucky, I can't believe so many people jump on this dorky bandwagon!

http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif ehem...I have to say I agree with almost everything except the stuff on this post...

I'm not against the anti-color discrimination but I've never seen or had an experience with a spotty horse not pinning when it should have. I don't think color discrimination is as big as you make it out to be. Usually if a paint doesn't pin the judge had a valid reason.

As for bright colors, ugh, not even going to say anything. Please, please keep the hot pink and rhinestones in the western pleasure ring.

Garters are another traditional thing. They were there to keep jodhpurs from riding up your legs. And don't even get me started on that jumpers comment...

I really wish the tall boots on little kids trend would die out. Its tacky and pointless.

I like the idea of color coordinating with your horse! as long as there are no rust breeches involved...

Kids wearing shadbellys with garters! Blah...Truthfully, anyone showing in a shadbelly without a top hat on. It's so not classy to wear your GPA with one. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif

I've been reading some of your posts lately when you announced that you show in the same Local Association that I show my greenies in. With this attitude, I don't know how you last a day showing. Garters are god-sent, Loud colored jackets in the western pleasure ring make me want to puke.....and in the HCHSA they DO NOT pin chesnuts and bays over loud colored horses in the pony ring. I come from a huge show barn that does the locals and the "A"s and we have many many loud colored ponies who do fabulously in the show ring. You may have not noticed, but 2 of my friends (GirlNextDoor) and another rider with Ken Krome have 2 gorgeous Appys who dominate the "A" circuit. Appsolut and Bamboozled....You have a very warped view of the show circuit. Especially HCHSA......

Hey - I agree with a lot of what ya'll are saying. But from a junior point of view I think that although the GPA stripes take away from the classy look of the hunter ring, I do not think that having a pom pom on your braids is in anyway tacky. Sure, its different but I mean come on now! We need something a little different every once in a while.

All of the above, i dont like the too long stirrups either. GPAs are fine in the jumpers but their tacky in the hunters, i agree w/ the shadbelly statement too.
