    Default What are judges preferences?

Plz share what you know about the preferences of the Big R judges who will be at WEF this year.
We all have preferences, so which direction do these ladies and gentlemen seem to gravitate? Old school, dressagy, (made a word), blahdeblah.
Please be neutral, professional, and civil, thanks.

Have you counted up the number of judges listed in the prize list for 12 weeks x 5 days/week x number of rings?

That's a lot of judges, and they are all individuals, so they will all have their own preferences.

Being that there are about 120 judges all through WEF your question is pretty silly. And yes, the answer is good riding. And nobody cares what color your coat is ;-)

Judges preferences are just that -- preferences. And they all have different ones.

Ride your horse how it goes best, whether that's like an old school TB or a more "put together" WB.

It's the worst idea in the word to try and adjust your ride to please whoever is sitting in the judges box. Ride to show off the best of your horse and let the chips fall where they may.

12 weeks of wef X 6 hunter/eq judges a week = you do realize you're asking for tips for 72 different judges, right?

(Look at that, you got an English major to do math!)

The one exception to the rule might be: If you're showing in front of George Morris in an equitation class, and you can do the automatic release well- do it!

They don't count your braids, or check what brand of shirt you are wearing. Conformity of dress and turn out is usual.....so that you can distinguish yourself by your performance. In THAT regard, however, with so much quality to compete with, having a properly PREPARED horse is more important. A beautiful jumper, a great mover, a gorgeous horse.....any and all of these qualities will leave the ring with out a ribbon if they are accompanied by freshness, exuberance, changes of pace, pulling, appearing spooky, over jumping...... Just watch a few classes and the number of very quiet quality horses, trained and ridden beautifully, by well coached and well dressed riders will show you WHAT the judges are looking for!!!
