Default Portland Meadows: Can anyone help me contact Rich Debut's owner/trainer?

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I can track down a horse's owner or trainer? The mare is Rich Debut, she's 7 and ran in Race 10 at Portland Meadows today, 3/22. She won.

We had her dam and I'd like to contact the owner and/or trainer and make sure they know Rich Debut has a soft place to land if ever she falls on hard times.

This mare has had a reasonably successful career, I guess. She ran in a $2000 claiming race today. How could someone off the track 'claim' her to retire her sound? Is that possible? Can it be done through another licensed trainer or owner? The dam's owners (who are eager to make sure the offspring don't go to slaughter) would be willing to purchase her.

    Thanks in advance!

If you need to put in a claim, our trainer could possibly help you out as long as funds are up front, etc. Portland closes on April 6 so she may or may not run again.

You could also try posting a message on oregonracing.com - some of the horsemen down there read it and post on that forum.

The trainer is Jim Fergason and the owners are "The Kids". The racing office at Portland Meadows should be able to help you with contact information. The racing season ends April 6th at PM.

You also might try contacting Katie...she is either working at the track and/or has connections.

You can claim a horse if you do so through a trainer.

Having a soft place to land is wonderful news! Most trainers welcome such information and interest! Best wishes.

    Nice win today!

I see the winners share is $1,870 for a $2,000 claim race.

No doubt you've considered she may not be in $2,000 next time. and/or, multiple claims.

However, with the meet ending soon.........who knows.

Congrats on your effort to land this mare!!

Any updates on this? She ran back today, won again, and Jesse Velasquez claimed her for $2k. If that wasn't a claim on your behalf, I would look for her at Emerald very soon (opens next Friday.)

She is now the winningest horse in the nation so far this year!

Rich Debut ($6.80) won her eighth race in 2011 with a four-length victory in the third race under Joe Crispin for trainer Rigoberto Velasquez. The 7-year-old California-bred mare took over the national lead in wins with the victory
