Default Farm internet hacked? Not sure

I admit to being totally internet/techno challenged.

But in the last month or so I'm starting to get emails from former email contact addresses. They are all horse-related email addresses. Some look familiar as perhaps they were breeding inquirers from years past, whose email addresses were automatically saved on my address list, etc.). I'm bad at cleaning those out.

All of these emails that are arriving have a brief, all lower case message with a link to sell financial services, start a home business or try to get me to buy Viagra from Canada. (Alrighty then, I've been divorced for 20 years...(chuckle).

So I thought, well maybe that what these folks have gotten into. So I report it as spam. But it keeps coming back.

Today, I get one from a former employee (who I stay in touch with regularly). So now it's getting more than annoying.

Have their email addresses been hacked, or has my auto-saved address list?

TIA for help from other much more knoweldgable than me. If it's me..what do I need to do to stop it? I'm almost 60, so have mercy on me..

Ackkk.. within the time it took me to post this on COTH, another one hit my emails. This one with "dressage" in their email address.

What the heck is going on?

    Try changing your email password.

I'm no expert either, but there seems to be a virus-thing going around that targets email accounts and uses them to send spam. Happened to one of mine, and stopped when I changed the password.

I'll do that and see if it helps. Thanks so much.

If you're using AOL and use their software, it is quite possible your e-mail account has been compromised and your address book copied. If you save usernames and passwords in your browser it is also fairly easy to get those and use them.

Your email has not been hacked. You most probably have a trojan and you're bouncing a little virus back and forth between you and your friends.

E-mail everyone on your contact list with a warning.
Run a sweep across your computer with some half decent anti-virus software.

If you need some more help pm me .

I got one on my gmail a little while ago. I wanted to switch providers anyway so I went a head and did that - a month later the problem died out itself.
