Ok folks- what are this year's "got to haves"? Any new trends in shirts/jackets/breeches or tack that I need to add to my shopping list for this year?

Well, I can let you know when the Americans swarm in en masse for Spruce Meadows this year. They're always the ones who seem to have the newest and the latest. Last year, I was shocked to see that there was some sort of bejeweled spur plate trend happening. This was very intriguing to me, as I was standing at the in-gate, wearing two spurs with very different straps (one leather, one...not. It wasn't baling twine or anything, but it certainly didn't match its partner http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_razz.gif).

    Cheers,
    Susie

Here's what's popular around here (zone 2... and at WEF this winter)

Coolmax shirts

Monogramming your collar with a little picture (but this was really only the juniors)

Dark jackets (as in navy, but that's pretty classic)

Light shirts

Stripes on your helmet

Pikeur breeches (they look just like TS when they are on, but they fit some people much better)[/list]
That's all I can think of right now...

Count me among the gauche American crowd. I am sooooo saving my $ for a pair of the bejeweled spurs! I believe the sapphire ones have my name written (or is that engraved?) all over them.

    Other trends?
    1.NO monogramming on chokers
2.Coats in all shades of gray
3.The return of pastel, checked and pinstriped shirts

I second Kachoo for that! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif I was fascinated by those spur thingies.....I'd be worried about getting the things dirty!! I'm just happy if all my hair stays up under my helmet (that is the extent of my fashion sense)

Now see, I go to the opposite extreme: I'd have to make sure I was wearing sapphire and white gold earrings to match my sapphire and stainless steel bejeweled spurs. http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif

Hmmmm.... I suppose at some point I should concentrate on my riding...

There was some very fancy spurs this weekend at the VI Classic, but I dont understand spending that much money on something I'm ust going to poke my pony with. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_razz.gif

That's a trend? I've been wearing sterling spurs with engraving and jewels for years..and have the "jingles" so they go "ka-chink" when I walk...oh, guess that's when I ride western. Well maybe I'll put them on next hunter show and give everyone something to talk about (hehe http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif). Actually I still like the silver spur strap buckles. Wish they'd do something about the shirts..very boring.

I liked the pretty, bright, fun linings of jackets that I saw in Palm Beach.

Has anyone seen the rhinestone-studded GPA's? At WEF, I saw a few young people sporting them!
Believe it or not, I did catch a few adults, too! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...s/icon_eek.gif

There are many threads on GPA studded helmets, people have posted pictures that they have done themselves. Or there is a girl named Jenny that does them for people but charges like $300 or something rediculous like that!

Oooh! Good one! I forgot about the new bright linings that are coordinated to go with the subtle stripes or windowpane checks in the huntcoats. I've seen burnt orange, purple, royal blue and yes, burgundy linings. Of course, that was mostly on display, but I'll bet someone will be brave.

Spur straps: I know you can get them from Mary's Tack in Del Mar, Calif. And they have a website. However, I had a hard time getting the silver tip end through the slots in my spurs. I suppose you have to what? Crimp the silver with a pair of pliers?

Oh bright linings to jackets are back?
They were big in the late 60's early 70's, perhaps that means....velvet collars are soon.

Those rhinestone spurs are SOOO pretty. Especially when you see them up close. When you are polishing the boots of the princess wearing them http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif

OOOO yea!! Those are soooo popular down here!! And I am one who is gonna get on that trend too!

    Others are:
*Spurs even if you dont need them (I HATE this trend!!)
*Half Pads instead of fully shaped ones

Umm I cant think of any others right now but those are the only ones I can think of right now.
