    Default Conformation Critiques

With all the questions about conformation for prospects or horses people already own, I thought it would be nice to have one thread to put them all in. It's one of my favorite things to read about on here, and I like seeing pics of other posters horses.

And, to kick things off with a lovely donkey picture, here is my greenie that I hope to event this year:
    http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6596469_n.jpg

He's a 6yo TB who was out of riding for 3 months, back in a schedule for the past one month. Feel free to critique!

    fun fun!!

here are my 2 OTTB's, both whom I plan to do eventing with.

This is my 9 year old, about 15.2hh (excuse the ridiculous pink and the western saddle but this was the best conformation shot of him I have!)

Thanks!! I HAVE thought about selling him cuz he's gonna take so long to get him where I want him and it's hard to be patient!!! I'm sure hoping he'll be worth it in the end. He had his brain just destroyed by the racetrack so he's been a pasture pet for the last year. Hope to start up with him soon!

I love how thick your 9yo is! And not in a fat way--he just looks really solid. My other TB is the same.

Thank you, it's nice to have a stout one that isn't a terribly hard keeper hehe! Funny thing is that EVERYBODY asks me if the black one is a QH, but never the bay. The black one looks totally TB, I would never peg him for a QH! Strange

    I'll play...

I have kept a small album of Lad's conformation over the years...

I find it interesting to see the changes as he's grown up.

And for those who haven't already been subjected to staring at his pics a thousand times before... here he is in action..

Okay, I'll play. I never did ask anyone what they thought of my girl's conformation.

    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_F7IFhKQhDf...01119-1348.jpg

She's got about three months of work on her at that point. She's still putting on muscle and building a topline after years spent in a pasture doing nothing but having a colt. I think she's cute as a bug's ear, but I'm very biased.

@Banshee Breeze: Sorry, I can't really see the first guy with all of the stuff on him. And after my poor retinas were singed. But the second guy is cute. Like the shoulder, I can't wait to see what he looks like when he's all done growing up. The angle's a bit weird to see the hind end, but he looks like he could have a big gallop. Nice, athletic look to him.

I think your mare looks great, and with more muscle, she'll be even better! She's really cute!

Emily, that album really shows how much conditioning can change how a horse looks "at a glance." Of course it's the same horse with the same good points and faults, but...

I will also inflict maresy on y'all once again, even though eventing days are over for both of us.

This is from about 4 years ago, before I bought her:
    http://www.sportmorgan.com/sales/gra...onia_01_01.jpg

and last year, about a month post-suspensory surgery... those straight hind legs finally caught up with her.

sorry about that!! all my good conformation pictures were on my phone that broke. Gotta take some new ones after I do some spring cleaning on them. I think the youngster is going to be very athletic too. Can't wait to free jump him and see how he does! Here's a pic of his gallop in a very tiny round pen.

    Hey Banshee

Funny piece of trivia for you given your screen name..

My horse Lad is one of only 4-5 horses bred on the same cross as Banshee Breeze.

They were hoping mightily that he would emulate her amazing career and his breeders told me she was a big reason that they chose Unbridled to be bred to his mom. Who like Banshee Winds was by Known Fact.

Just thought that was an interesting factoid.

Sometimes I think my pony is adorable, and sometimes I think she is ugly, she is really changing daily right now. One thing though, she is solidly built and compact, and ridiculously athletic. Curious if one would think from a conf shot that she is built to event - seeing her in person you would definitely think so.

This is the only conformation-type photo I have of my boy--he does actually have a neck! This was his sale photo as a 6 y.o. He had some time off and wasn't very muscular at this point. Will try and take another one tomorrow if weather and pony cooperate.

ETA this photo shows his neck. This was a little over a year after I got him.
