Just thinking back to my childhood...

For me it was a racehorse called Timely Writer. He was so beautiful and elegant, and was a "local hero" here in MA, as some brothers in Boston owned him. Sadly, he broke his leg in the Jockey Club Gold Cup race, live on TV. :-( I never forgot him.

My next favorite was Touch of Class...it was amazing to see her sailing over those jumps at the Olympics.

So, who was your first "famous horse" idol??

It's hard to pick just one! But, I guess I'd have to say my celeb horse would have to be Gem Twist.

Truthfully it was Man O War but he wasn't alive while I was growing up so I never really saw him...just love the story and the horse himself from what I'ver seen/read-and he's related to my retired guy who looks soooo much like him!

But then again, Seattle Slew is a gem and my greenies granddaddy so...

See, there are just too many-I could do this all day long!

When I was young we would go on vacation to the UK, and I'd always buy horse magazines, they were very fond of Milton, so I had tons of pictures of him all around my bedroom.

Hands down, Man o' War. I got the book when I was a kid and must have read it a thousand times. Still is my favorite racehorse http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...on_biggrin.gif

Secretariat - he was the greatest racehorse who ever lived, IMHO.

Flicka from My Friend Flicka. Black Beauty. All of the Misty books.

Cigar was the first "real horse" that I was honestly obsessed with actually.
