Well, Balou himself is sort of short & chunky, a bit QH-ey if you will. Now, obviously he can throw a very nice type, but I do see his 'type' in some of his get, or aspects of it. Suspect this is partly why his foals are so attractive, they all seem to come out well-developed. I really like Balou, he is producing lovely foals/horses here (due to all the blood we use?), and we have some fabulous sons available. Just some things to keep in mind.
As an aside, in a riding horse, I personally find my horses big long neck slightly more difficult to manage than my horse with an average neck. They both look great though, and the long, archy neck is an attention-getter.
I love this guy, and adore his bloodlines. We are using him next year on a proven mare, with strong dutch jumper lines. She's not "modern," but has been bred to a full Irish Draught in the past and thrown very athletic foals (we own one - attached), so I'm not at all worried about the cross with Amazing being anything but sporty. Excited about it, for sure
