    Default Patent Leather Bridles

Anyone have one? How well do they hold up? Do they scratch easy and how is the leather care? The horse I'm looking to buy at some point in the future has a really cute face and I'm thinking either a patent leather bridle or this Kieffer Andromeda bridle that I found (it's black with brown padding and a curved browband) would be lovely on his face! Just dreaming ahead....

Love the look of it, hate the idea of the shinny showing scratches from use. Maybe someone can enlighten us on how they keep theirs looking good for in long haul.

I've NEVER put pics on here before so let's see if this works!

If it works, the horse on the left is my current lease horse and the horse on the right is the young horse I want to buy sometime in the relatively near future. I stole this from my friends Facebook
This horse has a TON of personality and always has a smile on his face! He's just really, really cute. And of course it doesn't hurt that daddy is a successful Grand Prix horse here in Germany and mama is an Intermediare horse

I'm from the Saddle Seat world, where patent bridles and girths and harnesses rein supreme!

If it's true patent leather (not vinyl) it'll hold up very well and not scratch. I use Armorall or something similar to buff before showing (squirt on towel, not on the leather or the overspray will inevitably end up on your reins! ), and you can clean it with any leather cleaner/soap. It doesn't need oiling. I just wipe the sweat off after use and it stays very clean.

I've had my patent leather browband for going on 12 years and it looks brand new. My show harness is 24 years old and the tiny patent beading on one side of the saddle area has a tiny crack, but the rest of it looks awesome. Patent holds up better than regular leather IMHO in terms of splitting/cracking with use.

    Smile I like mine....

I have patent leather dressage bridle from FSS that I bought last winter - my mare wore it almost daily all summer long - so far it is holding up well. I really like it.

The last picture in this FB album is my mare wearing it (headshot of the chestnut):

Sorry - I would have posted a direct link to the picture - but I can't figure out how to do that with the new Facebook format.
