Default Share your favorite "low current airplay" Music

Welcome fellow music lovers. This is a thread to share music that you love but rarely hear on the radio these days. Songs may have been big hits in their day but are currently seldom heard (yes it may be a little different for those with satellite radio). The point of the thread is to share what you like, expose folks to things they've never heard, and have fun!!!

Here is one that I just love.

Huge fan of old delta blues. Junior Kimbrough, Son House, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Robert Johnson, I could go on and on. I never hear any of it on the radio.
    Luckily I'm a CD/record ho

Is there a university radio station anywhere near you? I listen to WXPN (University of Pennsylvania) and WVUD (University of Delaware) pretty much exclusively.

I hear Black Keys, Mavis Staples, Ray Lamontagne, Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists, Dr. Dog, Trombone Shorty, old blues, bluegrass, jazz, old rock, well you get the picture.

Of course if you want to you can listen to both of these stations over your PC. Some real gems out there if you dig for them.

I'll have to look! It would be great to hear my kind of music instead of Katy Perry and Bruno Mars all the time It's gotten to the point where I don't even listen to the radio anymore.

Any of John Frusciantes solo stuff. I have never heard any on the radio but he is my absolute #1 artist. I never tire of him, brilliant.

I love Deertick and The Avett Bros too. They might get radio play somewhere but certainly not in Toronto!

Loving some of your lists, great thread.

Darn near anything from Better Than Ezra (though I prefer stuff that never got airplay) and also Matthew Sweet who almost never gets airplay or even acknowledgment despite his longevity

I am a HUGE fan of Rush, and they've never been terribly popular on the radio. Nearly forty years' worth of music, and you occasionally hear "Tom Sawyer", but that's about it.

Thanks, I'd never actually listened to Cradle of Filth It reminds me of the industrial stuff I used to listen to in the late 80s/early 90s:

    Ministry:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4iuTd488c0

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lHySN90hGc

    Skinny Puppy:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q0tZ5fLVrU
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDKkRSUrTd8

Thanks, hadn't listened to either of these in a while...I may have the most eclectic taste ever because I also love this:

    Cowboy Junkies:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7iJ5WrXthY

And my favorite band ever, Sublime, is a LOT more than that one song that got tons of radio play:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz3Ccw7R4Hc

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYI0ZbM6_u0

Yeah, you can probably tell I don't listen to mainstream radio much

Right this moment on WXPN the "About the Blues" show is on. It plays Saturdays from 7-midnight EST.

    Here's tonight's 9:00 playlist:

Ruby Wilson - A Change Is Gonna Come
Homemade Jamz Blues Band - Nothing's Changed For The Po
Willie Dixon - It Don't Make Sense (You Can't Make Peace)
    J. B. Lenoir - Alabama March
    J. B. Lenoir - Down In Mississippi
Mavis Staples - Why Am I Treated So Bad
Stan "The Man" Hedges - Won't Stand The Light Of Day
Lisa Chavous - One People One World, One Blues
    Howlin' Wolf - Spoonfult
    Roy Gaines - Thang Shaker
    Deb Callahan - Throwaway Child

I know you're on the other coast but if you happen to be at your computer you can listen.

Me, I really have no idea who either Katy Perry or Bruno Mars are. I'm guessing that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I wanna go see them so bad, but everyone I know likes country music and its no fun to go by yourself. I need to find someone to drag along, I've been procrastinating too long methinks!
